I was just looking back at the 2003 draft and it made my stomach sick. Hindsight is 20-20, but man was that a putrid draft. By round here is what we drafted and who was left on the board. Some of these players left just ended up being much better than ANYONE could have thought, but there are a few players that you just knew at the time could be special Round One 4 Dewayne Robertson DT Kentucky New York Jets 5 Terence Newman CB Kansas State Dallas Cowboys 9 Kevin Williams DE Oklahoma State Minnesota Vikings 10 Terrell Suggs OLB Arizona State Baltimore Ravens 13 Ty Warren DE Texas A&M New England Patriots 16 Troy Polamalu DB USC Pittsburgh Steelers 18 Calvin Pace DE Wake Forest Arizona Cardinals (haaaaa......does this make up for it?) 19 Kyle Boller QB California Baltimore Ravens 21 Jeff Faine C Notre Dame Cleveland Browns 23 Willis McGahee RB Miami (Fla.) Actually that year was very very good for the Patriots --- they filled about 5 positions alone w/that draft ---- Warren (DE), Wilson (S), Samuel (CB), Koppen (C), Banta-Cain (OLB). 1 13 Ty Warren DE Texas A&M 2 36 Eugene Wilson FS Illinois 2 45 Bethel Johnson WR Texas A&M 4 117 Dan Klecko DT Temple 4 120 Asante Samuel CB Central Florida 5 164 Dan Koppen C Boston College 6 201 Kliff Kingsbury QB Texas Tech 7 234 Spencer Nead TE Brigham Young 7 239 Tully Banta-Cain LB California 7 243 Ethan Kelley NT Baylor
BJ ASKEW WAS A BEAST. Can't nobody block D-Rob. Imagine how the next few years would have turned out for us had we kept the 13th and 22nd picks in the 1st round. There was some pretty nice talent available, but then again, hindsight is 20/20...
This is very true, at this point since we have rid ourselves of many of those players, this just reaffirms my belief that Bradway sucked
Ok doing the draft over do we still trade up and take Williams instead. Or keep the original picks take Polamalu and Asomugha. Then take Boldin in the 3rd. That would be a great draft right there.
Our draft stank but I didn't think it was a deep draft (at the time) anyway. You'd have needed a serious crystal ball to predict some of the guys we missed were going to make a difference to their respective teams.
Take a look at what the Chargers did in that 2003 draft. Kris Dielman Antonio Gates Jacques Cesaire Stephen Cooper Kassim Osgood ...all undrafted pick-ups. Fuck the draft!
When the trade up to 4 happened, I was so hoping it would be for Andre Johnson....but he went to #3. Damn DRob.
I remember how everyone thought Pace was a reach when the Cardinals drafted. And then he was considered a bust.
misdrafted. He should have always been standing up. But not many teams were playing a 3-4 defense. Slightly related, Gholston should have never of been a 3-4 OLB. But even as a 4-3 DE, he wouldn't be doing all too well.
