Don't know if this article was posted because I haven't read post in this thread for like 3 days and I'm down like 20 some odd pages of new posts. If it is a repost I'm sorry.

ESPNNewYork.com reporter Rich Cimini has more info about the proposal cornerback Darrelle Revis' agents submitted to the New York Jets at a Roscoe, N.Y., diner Friday.

No word on whether the paperwork had a sheen of bacon grease and a coffee ring on it when Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum forwarded it to owner Woody Johnson.

    But apparently it was indigestible.

Johnson essentially said "Kiss my grits."

Johnson told Jets reporters Monday afternoon the proposal showed no progress and he wasn't optimistic a deal would get done before the season started.

Cimini reports the meeting took place at the Roscoe Diner because it's roughly halfway between the Jets' training-camp site in Cortland and Rockland County, where Revis' agents, Neil Schwartz and Jonathan Feinsod, do business. Jets contract specialist Ari Nissim also attended.

Revis wants to be the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL, and based on the glowing declarations head coach Rex Ryan has made over the past year, it sounds like at least one prominent member of the Jets agrees in theory.

The problem -- in addition to tricky limitations in an uncapped year and all the labor uncertainty -- is the Oakland Raiders gave cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha an outlandish deal that shattered the standard. The Jets are averse to accepting it as a starting point with Revis, who is using that contract as his measuring stick. Asomugha's deal averages $15.1 million a year.

    Cimini writes:

Schwartz refused to reveal any specifics from their written proposal, but it's said to be a creative package that addresses the Jets' concerns about a large signing bonus. The Jets' last offer came on the eve of training camp, but it included a small amount of guaranteed money -- about $5 million in 2010. Revis was so upset that it sealed his decision to stage a holdout.

Revis has three years left on his contract. He has not reported to training camp and so far has amassed $148,000 in fines.

Is there a limit to which Revis can be paid this season? Just from a basic google search

    https://theswamp51.wordpress.com/2010/07/22/lamarr-woodley-wants-to-get-paid-well-get-in-line/

"Many players that have out played their contracts are looking for a raise, and in a lot of those cases, a deserved one. The problem is, without the CBA, players cannot receive a raise that would give them more than an additional 30 percent increase.

Some players, that were selected in the first round of the draft they were in, such as Patrick Willis of the San Francisco 49ers, were able to get a big raise, but only because of their due salary, and it being in the last year of his deal.

Most of his money is paid in two large signing bonuses, but with signing bonuses not able to exceed 40 percent of the contract, players that were taken after the first round, are having to suffer."

So is that based off his $550,000 base pay or his cap value of $1,915,916 or does his incentives come into play? If that's so then he's got to be stupid for thinking he can get paid $10+ mil when going off the numbers provided he can't get paid more than $715,000 base in 2010(2010 base + 30%) with a $286,000 signing bonus(40% of $715,000) for a total of $1,001,000.

The numbers they use are last year's numbers. I don't remember the specifics but they were MUCH larger than this year's numbers.

One last thing I want to add.
What if the Jets DID met Revis's demands?
What guarantee do the Jets have he would still be the same player?

Revis has shown now that he is about himself and not the team. What motivation would he have after getting his big payday to play as hard as he did?

lol fuck this is going to be brutal. Well guys, be prepared to play without Revis this year! Can we do it with just Wilson and Cromartie? If we lose the first 3 game will the Jets buckle?

    1. Cromartie fills in for Revis - he doesn't have to be a good as Revis, just has to keep the other team's # 1 guy from killing us

    2. Wilson comes in as the best CB in the draft. Big upgrade over Lito Shepard

    3. Lowery has another year under his belt

    4. Coleman has another year under his belt

    5. Injury prone Strickland and Shepard are gone. Training camp will give us the opportunity to decide who gets the last two spots.

If the Revis negotiations go badly I would expect the FO to bring in an experienced #3 or # 4 CB.

As we learned last year we don't need the # 1 CB in the NFL as much as we need depth to get past the Colts.

    The Darrelle Revis Holdout Thread

Ugh. This is New York we're talking about. Wake up, Woody. There are plenty of New Yorkers you could toss in a room with Tanny and Schwartz and have a deal done in under an hour.

Just pay the man already! So he wants a large signing bonus up front, then give it to him!

Sometimes the best way to stop manning is to keep him off the field. If our offense is good enough to do that and score more points it can help stop the Colts from scoring.

How could you possibly know what Jenkins will be able to give this season? If he's healthy against the Colts, even in a reduced capacity it makes a huge difference.

Taylor picked up 7 sacks on a shitty Dolphins defense last year. I am sure that Rex will do a better job of getting him favorable matchups. He gives us another legit pass rusher.

There's no doubt Manning can do damage quickly. The defense can still be very good without Revis though, and if our offense can hold onto the ball longer and put up more points it makes the game closer.

Revis gives us the potential of having an all-time great defense. Without him, Rex can still field a very good defense. I don't think it's unreasonable to think a very good defense with a much improved offense has a good shot at beating them.

Ok so it would be the $7,525,916 he earned with bonuses then?

    2009 total $7,525,916 * 1.3(Base + 30% max raise) = $9,783,690.80
    $9,783,690.80 * 1.4(Salary + 40% max signing bonus) = $13,697,167.12

So the maximum Revis can get in 2010 is $13,697,167.12 correct?
