I still dont understand.. How can somebody who's never taken a snap in the NFL get that kind of money
It's a crazy number, but guaranteed is a bit misleading. It's just the number the agents want out there to recruit other prospects. For example, if Stafford doesn't meet certain qualifying incentives, then the Lions are only on the hook for roughly $17 million in guaranteed money.
I am pretty sure you are wrong because usually guaranteed means they are guaranteed to get it. The number the agents like to get out there in most cases is the total, like when someone signs a 4 year $40 mil contract but only $5 mil is guaranteed they want they media to play it up as a $40 mil contract. Notice the first line in the article is that he signed a 6 year $78 mil contract.
Lionsfan is right, the NFL salary projections reflect the guarantees they are likely to hit, but when they report numbers then they mention every single potential dollar they could make. Tebow's 33 million guaranteed was being reported yesterday, even though it's heavily based in guarantees.
Remember with the Brick deal. The contract can be fully guaranteed, guaranteed against inj, or guaranteed against performance. It does not say what type of guarantee he got.
I agree completely. It looks like Jamarcus Russel would have been the poster boy for rookie salary caps.
That is this year because of the uncapped year and the restrictions, many are fully guaranteed but the CBA and uncapped years are where it gets tricky.
What freaking garbage rookie contracts have become. I'm glad we have two obvious examples in Jamarcus Russell and Michael Crabgreed before the new CBA. but of course the Union is extremely stubborn and probably stupid, so this will turn into a 100% chance of a lockout. I still don't understand Crabtree. Like, how could you compromise your rookie season, part of your team's season and possible sucess, and also feel completely entitled to a enormous contract right out of the gate? You must really not love football as much as you love unearned money.
Barely played last year. Comes from spread offense in which no college quarterback makes the transition to the pro game. Can't remember any good quarterbacks coming from Oklahoma. The Rams set themselves back another 10 years with that pick. Shoulda took Suh.
