In this newspaper article from today (http://www.northjersey.com/sports/p.../99606669_Coles__Jets_trying_for_Round_3.html), was this tidbit:

The Jets also placed backup quarterback Erik Ainge on the reserve-non football injury list with an undisclosed illness.

If I remember correctly, there was a mystery illness/injury/undisclosed situation in Ainge's rookie year. I bet that the Jets find a way to stash him on some IR or other non-roster list this year and go with Brunell & Clemens or Brunell & O'Connell as back-ups, with the Clemens-O'Connell loser being cut. Any reaction?

I think it's been confirmed that O'Connel will NOT be cut. I read somewhere(I think Manish tweeted it) that he was told to come to Cortland already.

Now yeah he still could be cut, but I expect Clemens to be gone.

To me, Clemens seems like he could be a solid career backup QB... just my opinion though.

Just looks like a way of keeping 4 QBs for the moment , before someone gets cut ??

When he hits the road, I think he may end up in the UFL. Not sure what NFL team wants him as a backup. I don't know what his upside is.

i still think clemens deserves a decent shot to start somewhere. we all know he never had a good shot behind our terrible offensive lines of the past, and throwing him in the fire midseason last year in tampa bay is not giving him a shot.

I don't think anyone will give him a shot as a starter. I think he can be a capable backup, and it may as well be here. If he realizes this, I could see him staying.

putting a 4th year QB in Schotty's system against a shit defense and a 3 win team in not throwing them in the fire.

    Clemens isn't an NFL QB.

I'm thinking Ainge is on the reserve list until Tanny straightens out the Clemens situation. I'm thinking there may be some interest in Clemens and a trade could be made.

All it takes is for an injury in training camp for an opening for a quality backup QB.

Until then, Ainge can ride the pine.

Yes, this is at least the second time this has happened with Ainge. Since they never really say what it is, it didn't occur to me that the move was gamesmanship.

I hope it is, because the first thing I thought of was some sort of emotional mental illness problem.

At this point since we are not gonna get squat for him so we might as well keep Clemens until the pre season is over to evaluate Brunell and in case he or Sanchez get injured. He does know the system better then anyone. Hopefully, Brunell looks good and Mark is ready to go and its by by birdy. Is O'Connell our 3rd string or Brad Smith? Could save a roster spot with that move

Clemens was more ineffectual than a eunuch trying to do his first porn scene.
