Also another big difference is that JT will mean little to your success this season. Pennington WAS the reason that we won 11 games. Somebody mentioned that we were a .500 team without him...Please, we were not even a 6 win team without Chad. The guy has meant the world to our rebuilding process and (potential) comeback to the top of the division. He also means a lot to Henne and his development. That said JT will be a HOF'er and spoke trash about the Jets up until he became one...Not the same can be said about Chad. So, I guess we're even. Lol.
Its a shame that you would rather have had him retire before he was ready than play with a rival. It pains us all when we lose a great to a rival, but you get over it and move on. Oh and if Green Bay fans will be able to accept Favre again once he is done in Minnesota, than dolphin fans ought to be able to accept Taylor again once he hangs them up.
I understand what you're saying. I don't think GB fans will be able to accept what Favre did though. Then again, they may come around because he is the best player they have ever had while JT is not in Miami. Marino could have played one more year for Minny or Pittsburgh...he didn't. He decided to retire a Dolphin. Zach Thomas was getting offers from the Patriots for more money and more years than Dallas gave him...he chose against the Pats. JT had a choice and he made it; he's been there done that, so, I'm sure he thinks he knows what he is doing. If he didn't turn down an extension in December, and never got a single offer from Miami, that would be one thing and I'd understand. BUT, he did turn down an extension and it was for just as much money (I think?---2.5 mil), as he got in NY. Once he turned that down, he was dead to Parcells and once I heard the news he was dead to me. I still think that because of our OLB situation we would have resigned him, but, regardless. He chose the open market and subsequently the Jets over Miami, and that's not what a "Dolphin" or any loyal player to their franchise does. He said he was not playing for the money and that if he had gotten any offer from Miami he would have taken it because all he wanted was to retire a Dolphin. He lied to our faces and I will never forgive him for that. As for what he brings to the table, I think he'll definitely be a stabilizing force in the locker room if there needs to be one (ala a Kerry Rhodes or Thomas Jones situation). He's not nearly as quick off the line as he was years ago, but he has gotten much stronger at the point of attack. He'd actually be just as effective as a first down OLB as he would as a situational pass rusher, IMO. But with that said as a 3rd down guy he'll be a beast. It's a shame we had to feed Porter's ego and give him 3rd down reps over JT last season, and also that he had an idiot DC. But on 3rd down JT can still be a beast moving around the front seven, confusing the opposing QB and O-line, blitzing, dropping into coverage, coming from the left, right, middle...Rex Ryan is the perfect DC for him, and while he's not the 2006 JT, he can still be effective. That said I wish JT the worst, and I hope the first time he's on the field Jake Long knocks him on his ass. ;p
Phins Rock, JT will always be a Dolphin, if and when he goes in to the HOF it will be as a Dolphin. Yet, right now he will wear the Green and White of the NY Jets, I down right hated this man and thought we was a total asshole, but always respected him as a player. I think you will find most Jets fans feels the same way, we hated him because he was so good and could back up his trash talking in most cases. I say in most case because, he was on the losing end of so many of the Jets/Fins match ups. I believe this year that things will return to normal and he will get to see how the other half lives. No disrespect, and I don't say this often, but I believe the Jets will sweep you this year and begin to get back into the Dolphins heads again.... An for Jets fans, the sweetest revenge against JT for all the years he hated us so badly, will be for him to win a SB championship with the Green and White and have to wear that SB ring for the rest of his natural life. An if he does go into the HOF he will have to allow some part of that to be on the Jets shoulders ... :jets:
