Yeah, Jets Nation is on right now. So far Adam Schein and Ray Lucas have been going over 10 stories going into training camp. 10) Jason Taylor's impact on the Jets Schein: 8-10 sacks. Shock the world. Lucas: 10-15 sacks. He's a competitor and will be a Pro Bowler. 9) Wide Receiver battle Schein: Thinks Holmes will be the go-to guy "when it's all said and done". Lucas: After seeing everyone at practice, believes Holmes is obviously the most talented receiver. 8) Left Guard battle Schein: Believes Slauson will win the job because of his experience with Callahan. Lucas: Believes Ducasse will win the job because he was drafted in the 2nd round to start right away. 7) Special Teams makeover Kicker: Jay Feely > Nick Folk Gunner: Wallace Wright > David Clowney Captain: Larry Izzo > Lance Laury Punt Returner: Jim Leonhard/Jerricho Cotchery > Kyle Wilson Schein: All downgrades except for Wilson. (I think Laury is an upgrade) Lucas: Agrees and thinks Folk will be cut.
Jenks talked about a player (Rhodes) who got lost in the city and was more focused on those things and football came 2nd. He also said he doesnt know if Gholston will do well. He says he has the skills but does not have the confidence
I'm very worried that getting rid of Feeley will be the thing that keeps us from reaching our goal of a SB.
I more worried about people watching MSNBC, then the combo of people watching fox news and nick folk combined
Without Feely gone there is no JT here. So if Taylor sucks then we can bitch about not having Feely. I love the guy but kickers are a dime a dozen. There's always somebody unemployed that can reliably get the job done.
i don't watch this show due to the retarded analysis by those two. They are loud and obnoxious for no good reason. Buttle offers decent commentary but when he get caught up in the bullshit he's just as bad. I wish they had a show that just offered sound analysis, or took the best posts from here and just read them aloud.
That kicker situation is scaring the shit out of me but then again its not like anybody we have ever came across has been able to kick a meaningful FG in a big game anyway.
the saving grace with taylor is he will only see the field on passing downs. which means he will be playing about 20% of the game, not 100%. Which means he will be as fresh in Feb as he is in Sept. There's also a 'mental' aspect to having him in on passing downs: He can pin his ears back and have at it. He won't have a 10,000 page play book rattling around inside his head every snap (something that's held the ghost back). Taylor can be 99% kill the QB and 1% everything else that may develop during the play.
I think (and hope) that your assessment is accurate. He'll be a situational rusher and in on defensive snaps when it could go either way. I think Pace and JT coming in off the edges could be a good combo. Granted, neither one is Freeney (Freeny?) but our guys combines puts pressure on both sides which I think is greater than 1 elite player.
In general I agree but in the case of this team the K is a very important piece. This team is built around running the ball and playing tough defense, which generally leads to low scoring and close games. If you don't have a reliable kicker in that situation we could end up losing a lot of close games. Maybe we'll find one but so far Folk has not proved himself to be reliable. And just like that Dolphins kicker from Ace Ventura, once they start missing it becomes mental and they start missing everything.
Have to keep fingers crossed that Folk's problems were post-surgery physical and not mental--we'll know soon. As for Feeley, you're only as good as your last game and Feeley certainly didn't bring his A-game to Indy. On the other hand, the Jets enjoyed 5 missed field goals against them, 3 by Charger Nate Kaeding (granted one 55+ yds but one from 36) in a 3-point win and two by Shayne Graham of the Bengals including a 28(!) yard gag. As for meaningful big kicks (if I can get that little choke artist Doug Brien out of my head), a few come to mind: headcase John Hall nailing a 53-yarder at Oakland to put the NYJ into the playoffs, Raul Allegre hitting a 30-yard chippy at Miami to secure a playoff berth and Hall's FG in the "Monday Night Miracle" win vs. Miami. Agree that Lucas' prediction of Taylor's getting 10-15 sacks is inflated?
