Jets are '100 percent certain' season opener will not be blacked out after selling 75 percent of 9,000 unsold PSLs »

    By Manish Mehta

The Jets have sold 75 percent of the 9,000 unsold personal seat licenses that were reduced in price by up to 50 percent last month. (If you do the math, that means there's about 2,250 PSLs yet to be sold).

The team is fully confident that the remaining PSLs at the New Meadlowlands Stadium will be sold in time to avoid a blackout for the Monday Night season opener against the Ravens on Sept. 13.

“We’re 100 percent certain that we’re going to sell out by opening day,” Matt Higgins, the Executive Vice President of Business Operations, told me this morning. “There’s no chance of a blackout.”

Three sections - the Lower End Zone (50 percent reduction), Mezzanine Endzone B (39 percent reduction) and Lower Sideline (33 percent reduction) - were affected by the reduction nearly six weeks ago.

The Jets will not make any further reduction in PSL prices. Higgins admitted that there will be some unsold club seats heading into the season, but they are excluded from the NFL's blackout rules.

“Every hour the phone just keeps ringing with fans interested in purchasing tickets,” Higgins said. “There will be no need to adjust those prices any further. We expect a full sellout.”

The Jets also started calling fans on a waiting list for Upper Bowl seats since many ticket holders in the Upper Bowl upgraded to purchase the reduced PSL seats, Higgins said.

Free agent defensive end Marques Douglas could re-sign with the Jets by the end of the week, according to a source. The 11-year veteran would help a defensive line lacking quality depth.

Undrafted free agent defensive tackle Martin Tevaseu, who was released by the Browns last month, was signed yesterday.

Is it just me, or is there something fishy in that first quote? They did not mention how many other seats are still available, just that 75% of the ones that they discounted were moved.

How many were sold at the expense of other seat sales? Meaning, if I moved from the upper deck down to the LSL seats, they now have my old seats they have to sell.

A more telling result would be how many new seats were sold....or the net number of sales after subtracing those that were returned when the people traded for nicer seats.

The quote is '100 percent certain'. The rest is just badly worded by Manish.

who are "jets", is woody, matt or Rob or their external auditors 100% certain? Just jets, not even NY jets. Maybe the jets in JFK are certain.
