Losing Jenks for this year would have really sucked...Rex saves the day again.

Yeah, I mean 31 is young especially since guys like Ted Washington were able to play until 40. I think losing weight will make him feel much better and hopefully keep him around for longer.

Might as well post the real article.

Even a Kris Jenkins that's slowing down from wear n' tear.....is still pretty dominant compared to most of the other 3-4 NTs in the league. Stay healthy this year, Kris!

I'm sure a lot of players start thinking about retiring after they turn 30, especially after an injury.

Yeah, an ACL tear in particular is tough.

I thought during last season after he popped his ACL that he'd be thinking about retirement. This is probably going to be the last season for Kris Jenkins.

He needs to be rotated out of snaps this year if we want him for the long haul.

i dont think he can stay healthy for an entire season if hes going to play the majority of sundays.

    http://profootballfocus.com/by_player.php?tab=by_player&season=2009&page=1&surn=J&playerid=814

    Week 1 Texans 25/50 snaps
    Week 2 Patriots 53/77 snaps
    Week 3 Titans 36/72 snaps
    Week 4 Saints 53/70 snaps
    Week 5 Miami 56/67 snaps
Week 6 Buffalo 21/80 snaps (left early due to injury obviously)

dunno. wonder how many plays he should be involved in next year?

I love Rex. He's the coach I've always dreamed of. Woody and Mike really hit a home run with this hire.

The Jets have that luxury now that they know Pouha is becoming effective. I'm not as high on Sione as a lot of people here, but as a depth player you really can't ask for a lot more than what he did in 2009. Being able to shift into a 4-3 with Ellis/Pouha/Devito/Thomas is pretty damn effective against the run when you are resting the Jenks.

I've been realizing the same thing slowly over the past year.

"Jenkins had an operation similar to the one he had in Carolina, in which doctors replaced the ligament in his right knee with part of his hamstring".

Jesus. I didn't know they could do that. Hope it doesn't compromise the hamstring. Ever had a hamstring tear? Not fun, and you always worry about it popping again.

Sorry to read Jenks is thinking about retiring. I think we'd all want at least two more seasons from him. Hope the lower weight helps, as does winning. Maybe then we will see him on the field through 2011.

This is like a similar article or statement he made last year. He was going to retire and then he heard Rex was coaching and he got him to stay. Anyone else remeber that, i forgot where i read that?

It's the basic procedure for ligament tear in an athlete...

yup. It was an awful thing when Jenkins went down, but we found out we have some solid guys on the Dline.

So Kris will probably retire after this season, and his contract with the Jets goes til 2012.

This could help our future with signing Revis, Mangold, and Harris. I would be sad to see Kris go though, and he obviously wont be the same guy then. Though nobody has any idea what the CBA will look like, or if we will watch Football.

    Wow.

What a coach, what a team.

NT will be the next issue to address in the draft. Pouha is good, but the Jets are going to need someone to step in.

I can see Jenks playing 20% of the snaps all season, and then hopefully in the playoffs he can play 40%

You'd be stunned what they can do. Believe me. They took out my fibula and grafted it to my femur, then grafted an artery to the transplanted bone so that it would have it's own blood supply. And it worked in healing my leg, which was shattered for 2 years. I'm telling you, these people can do all kinds of shit you'd never even think of.

Unless Pouha is going to be the longterm starter, we're going to need to find a nose tackle of the future pretty soon.

Yeah no shit. A friend of mine has been working for years at Tuffs University in the biomed department on growing spare ACL's for athletes. He started when the technology was in it's infancy and twelve years later he says it's like night and day what they can do.

According to him swapping busted ligaments is gonna be like changing spark plugs in the not too distant future.
