Ok we have talked about the top 5 offenses for a while today, now I'm interested to see who your top 5 defenses will be in your OPNION. Here are mine. 1. Jets 2. Ravens 3. Vikings 4. Steelers 5. Cowboys Honorable mention...... Saints, Colts, 49ers
Well it depends I don't like how overall is determined now, at least by ESPN anyway. In 2009 it was, (in total defense, aka yards allowed) NYJ GB Ravens Cincy Pitt Lowest points allowed per game was- NYJ Dallas Ravens SanFran NE The formula should be a combination of both to determine the "overall" rankings, just sayin- Mine would be NYJ Ravens Dallas Green Bay Cincy If you look at the Jets last year they gave up a total of 4,037 yards and number 2 was GB at 4,551 yards. But GB gave up 18.6 PPG which put them at 7th. Dallas gave up 5,054 yards(9th), but only gave up 15.6 PPG (2nd). I'd rather give up a thousand more yards in a year but 100 less points.
In 2009 Miami was 22nd in yards allowed and 25th in points allowed?? You think they improved that much? It's not like they hired Rex Ryan or something.
I still find it strange that we are considered by virtually everyone to have the #1 Defense. We have waited so long for a D like we SHOULD have this year.
the Broncos had historically one of the worst defenses ever in 08, and Mike Nolan came in and had them tops in the league early. They eventually fell off in the 2nd half of the season in run defense (and conflict in coaching styles), but I think Miami has the talent to be dangerous. They do not have the same secondary as us, but they will be running a very similar and aggressive defense that should improve them significantly. Personally, I hope they suck.
Still they had a coaching change and still when it was all said and done they were 13th in points allowed and 7th or 8th in yards allowed. I just don't see Miami jumping 20 spots with the same system in place, and I don't see Odrick carrying them on his back.
It projections...just throwing a wildcard in the mix. They have youth in the secondary and youth in the lines, Dansby is a good addition, Cameron Wake off the side with the amount of blitzing could lead to a huge year (for him). Like I said though...hope they tank.
Unless Rex has a heart attack or we have 5 season-ending injuries, nobody's bursting the bubble. The bottom never fell out in Baltimore and it won't here.
Yeah I was kinda baked when I posted that I'd probably stick them at 5 now that I look back. I think they are a top 5 this year though.
You don't think so? You have to give them a lot of credit and this season they could very show consistency through 16 games as opposed to maybe 8 ... 2nd to the Almighty Jets in yards allowed per game last season (284 per game) a decent margin compared to the Jets with 252 ... they force a lot of sacks and TOs with Charles Woodson by putting him all over the field, they may not stop teams on a consistent basis but they can force the opposing teams to turn the ball over, something Rex Ryan and our Jets can hopefully accomplish next season, we need to generate more sacks; and forced fumbles and interceptions as well but I think we did exceptionally well in that cateogory, but we just get offenses off the fucking field so I can't complain and that's why were better  They did stop the rushing attack better last season then us and did decently against the pass except for the Cardinals and Steelers game but the offenses they played last season, they should of done better, they feasted on easy TO prone teams like the bears and lions Regardless the Jets have the best defense in the NFL, if we can get more sacks and interceptions and FORCE FUMBLEs we can do work on these offenses every fucking sunday
