I actually think it may be wise to give Cro an extention. He is after all playing man to man and the last time he did that it sure showed (amazing rookie year). Back during his amazing year he did not have a revis like cb guarding the other side so I could only imagine with revis the number of extra opportunities he'll have to make those big plays. Sign him before he blows up big This is a gamble I will not oppose.
What leverage does he have other than to sit out? I say he plays under his contract until he gets a new one, which will be after the CBA situation is resolved. I don't understand why people think Revis has any leverage other than to hurt himself and the team ( and lose a year of service) by holding out. Holding out is not leverage. He is three years into a six year deal. While the Jets may have promised to give him a new contract, I will bet anything that nobody promised Revis that contract would make him the highest paid CB in football. Revis still comes off as a selfish jerk in all of this. By the way, I have a friend who lives in the townhouse complex where Revis lives in Livingston. He is doing major revovation work on a $1 million townhouse. It does not appear that he is planning on leaving the area any time soon. And if he does, he may find out first hand that the economy is bad and will impact him when he can't sell his upgraded townhouse in this down housing market. Congrats to Ferguson, who is a class act.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/07/08/dbrickashaws-real-deal-one-year-53225-million/ So if this is true (Florio), the deal is a much more cap friendly one than his rookie deal would have been over the next couple of years. What a great move by Tanny. - free up cap space for other core contracts - lock up d'brick to a deal they can easily get away from if he doesn't live up to it - make themselves look good in the contract political battle
there is no way this can possibly be true. it just can't be. otherwise his agent is an idiot. Essentially it is 8 separate 1 fully guaranteed year contracts tied together. No way his agent is that stupid... Hopefully he is but seriously what are the chances??
^^^ Look at that. 5.6 million in 2011. That money is only guaranteed if Brick stays healthy in 2010. I think most people would agree that Ferguson will continue to improve if he stays healthy in 2010, thus making him one of the best tackles in the league by 2011. Five and a half million for one of the best tackles in the league in a "salary-cap-dangerous" year. This contract was a brilliant stroke of business for Mike Tannenbaum.
Excellent signing Brick, a very good lineman is worth more than any corner, offer Revis no more than Brick or let him sit, he signed a contract.
There's a legitimate chance that Tanny may just be THAT good at manipulating contracts in terms of the cap. I mean, to think that this contract was signed so early there must have been something special about it, it's just that I didn't assume it would be the Jets getting the better end.
^^^^so tanny should offer revis a $20M/yr contract with $100M garuanteed that actually only pays him around $50 bucks!!!!!
Tanny is very very good. but every agent on the planet would have to be an idiot to agree to that type of deal, from the Jets perspective, I really hope that Bricks agent did agree to that deal, but i seriously doubt it is eight separate fully guaranteed years tied to together with a string...
Chances are Florio is not as good as Tanny or as a professional agent at reading contracts... PS Does this thing go on after the 2013 season?
A little funny money in the D'Brickashaw deal http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/07/09/a-little-funny-money-in-the-dbrickashaw-deal/ Again, Florio...
I don't really get what "guaranteed for skill only" means... is it something like "guaranteed only if we want to keep you"...?
that seems to be about right. the way i understood it was guaranteed as long as we think your good enough be paid this amount of money and on a somewhat related note, tanny is a fucking pimp with negotiations.
It means the Jets cannot cut D'Brick for other than injury related issues. If he has an off year but is physically healthy the Jets cannot cut him, which means they cannot force him to take a salary cut based on the threat of letting him go otherwise. If he's hurt and unable to perform the Jets don't have to pay him the guarantees. I think the guarantees are bass-ackwards from a motivational point of view but they serve the purpose of letting him claim he has a lot of guaranteed money in the deal and they serve the Jets purpose of not getting hugely exposed cap-wise by a career-ending injury. D'Brick has a metabolism that is very high and so the Jets don't need to worry about him getting fat and losing a step or two in his mid-career.
