I hope Ainge or Occonnell plays better than both of them and is the # 2---that said we need someone to backup Sanchez NOT a mentor--he already has a mentor in his qb coach!!!! We need someone that can step in and play well--not scared and not turning the ball over--just manage the damn game!!

i remember when we drafted clemens in the 2nd round and many pundunts had him rated as the top qb in the draft.

no one in recent memory has had life slam him in the face more than clemens. yes, he's had a few chances, but NEVER as the starter taking all the reps in practice. Even when he started 6 games, he was still 'just holding the fort'.

every bad thing you can say about clemens you are basically saying about a rookie.

lets see. He was asked to manage the game and he did. PS he won in Tampa. Isn't that the stat that counts?

that is what Kellen did in Tampa and these guys still are critical. The guys that see him practice dailymight possibly know something. They could possibly know more them some guys on this board yet we ignore what they are telling us. Why?

I think the optimal situation would be to have Brunell as the #3 guy and Clemens as #2. That way, we would have a solid player in Sanchez's absence (Clemens) and a veteran mentor for Sanchez (Brunell).

The Bucs didn't get a first down until the third quarter of that game. We won despite Clemens.

I gave Clemens a pass after 07 because the oline was so horrible, and in '08 Favre was under center. But seeing how little of a difference there was in 09 with the sick OL and run game has me convinced he's useless for this team.

The only thing he brings to the table is that he knows the system really, really well. But who the fuck cares if he can't execute the system?

A guy like Brunell (who has playoff experience and has had success in this league) could offer Sanchez and the other young QBs a lot more than Kellen fuckin' Clemens could.

Vinny is 56 years old. He can't contribute on the field. Brunell is still young...

Bin there done that. Some posters don't understand what you are trying to say. Ive been saying it for a while. Brunell is finished. His only value is as a mentor, but they want him to occupy a roster spot and 'mentor' Sanchez. I say 'fuck that'. Rather have the four QBs on the roster. Mentoring is not for players and if you want someone to mentor him as a player, sign Brunell as an assistant QB coach, let him dress up in pads and have him talk to Sanchez during the drives. Big deal guys. Not sure WHY the Brunell hype as a player.

Brunell will be 40 when the season starts. Young in COMPARISON, I suppose but...

Brunell will be 40, in real life years that's fairly young, in football years that's Methusala., and in dog years that's about 25 years in the dirt nap stage.

It's not that I like Brunell as a #2 QB for this team, it's that I like him more than Kellen Clemens as a #2 QB for this team.

I don't see Clemens being on this team much longer. I always thought he was an average backup QB, but with all the rumors about the Jets trying to trade Clemens and being interested in Brunell, I don't see him making the roster this year.

I'd prefer Clemens over Brunell too. However.. I think it's clear that Schotty doesn't have much confidence in Clemens and if he is going to continue to call ultraconservative plays that leave the offense completely ineffectual, like he did last year, we'd be much better off with Brunell.

I found that way too funny for something so stupid. Points for originality.

yes JAWS loved it-----many people including me liked it---after watching him play I say---yes he can manage the game but I feel we will win inspite of him not because of him. I rooted for him but honestly at this point could care if he is on the roster for game 1. I would rather the team and myself HATE him and he play well then everyone LIKE the guy and him show little as has been the case

I can think of 20 or 30 guys I'd rather have as backups that are better than KC, but Brunell isn't one of them. I have no qualm about replacing KC as the #2 or even #3, but it needs to be someone better than KC.

Klemens has been a good soldier and has talent, hes never gotten a chance to develope it. we dont need Brunell, the Jets got to the AFC championship game last year and would have won if Green didnt get hurt. Sanchez will do just fine, run the ball alot, control the clock, play tough defense and jets will win big. Stop this stupid talk about over the hill QBs, Jets have tried that before and it never worked, a new era starts with young, new players.
