a great in-depth look at the jets from football outsiders... i normally pay 20 bucks for the whole book but the jets were the free preview this year. http://www.footballoutsiders.com/files/downloads/FOA%202010%20Sample%20-%20NYJ.pdf
hell of a read, really long, but a hell of a read none the less. How insane was revis season last year? it was the equivalent of passing for 5,532 yards? nearly 500 yards over the single season record? Holy hell that insane
Good read. I think they may have downplayed the impact Cromartie and Kyle Wilson could have on the pass defense, especially in terms of big plays and takeaways, but I definitely agree with most of what was written.
Did I miss the conclusion on this? Does yours end on the coaching staff too? Great read I was just expecting an end-
The conclusion to the main article is on page 5. Pages 6-10 are comments on units and the coaching staff and stuff.
I don't have the time to read this in it's entirety right now, but from what I finished I gather Revis is a 6 Sigma capable process.
The tidbit I found most interesting? On offense, the Jets threw fewer screen passes to running backs than any other team in the league. On defense, the Jets allowed more yards on screen passes than any other team in the league. Curious, especially for a team with a rookie quarterback and a top-ranked pass defense. But it explains our off-season strategy perfectly: get backs who can catch and add to the secondary.
It was also very interesting to read that we gave up more passing yards per play on passes behind the line of scrimmage than passes past the line of scrimmage... that's gotta be pretty rare.
That is a very informative and good article. They seem to underplay the impact of Cromartie (either positive or negative) and almost act like he's just another Lito Shepard. Also, the part about Weatherford was interesting and something I didn't know. That being said, I don't really care how athletic he is, he's a shitty punter and should at least have some good competition.
Wow - that was a great, comprehensive overview of the Jets from last year and what to expect this year. Very well done.
Anyone notice that on page 6, in week 8 they have us playing the Vikings? Ah, it's probably a MIA typo'd into MIN.
I didn't find it that curious. I've been re-watching some of the games lately and Sanchez was terrible as executing screens, and he was also terrible at not giving them away .005 seconds after the snap. Most defenses busted the hell out of our screens and I think Schotty gave up on them at some point.
