Please, re-cover that rock ASAP. I've heard of leaving no stone unturned, but that's crazy. Nothing to get excited about, more funny than anything. Perhaps we need a buffet attendant/food taster?

    Jets interested in JaMarcus Russell?

    By Rich Cimini

When he was hired in 2006, GM Mike Tannenbaum vowed to look under every rock in an effort to procure talent. That apparently includes discarded boulders.

Sources say the Jets have checked under the JaMarcus Russell rock.

The Jets are interested in acquiring a veteran quarterback before training camp and, while sources maintain that free agent Mark Brunell remains the odds-on favorite, the team isn’t ignoring other options. And one player they’re monitoring is the former Oakland Raiders bust, who was cut recently after reportedly ballooning to 300 pounds, give or take a buffet.

Russell, the No. 1 overall pick in 2007, is training in Arizona, trying to get in shape. The Jets have received positive reports, but don’t jump to conclusions here. Their interest appears to be cursory; we’re talking maybe one phone call. Sources say the Arizona Cardinals or the Minnesota Vikings are the most likely landing spot.

The Jets wouldn’t be handcuffed by the “Final Eight” rules if they decide to sign Russell. That’s because he was released by another team. To sign Brunell, an unrestricted free agent, the Jets have to wait until late July, when the restrictions are lifted. And that appears to be the plan.

Frankly, Russell in New York would be a disaster. There are many reasons why it wouldn’t work, but let’s keep it to one: He’s an all-time underachiever, and you don’t want those kinds of players messing with your chemistry. You also don't want him hanging around your young franchise quarterback, Mark Sanchez, who is the anti-JaMarcus.

But, at the same time, it’s a thin quarterback market and the Jets are getting their ducks in a row, just in case Brunell falls through. Something tells me they’d sooner stick with Kellen Clemens than hand the No. 2 job to Russell, but he’s worth mentioning because he’s a big name – and a big quarterback. Too big.

Seriously, this is on the Florio-level of "just fill up blog space on my website with fantasy speculation". I'm starting to see now why so many on TGG bash Cimini.

Watching Gholston try to sack him would be like watching one of those automatic vacuum cleaners bang into the wall over and over again. I think it would be hard to sack a 400 lb man.

Well, he did have a source, but the question was whether it was worth posting this crap. I'm sure lots of teams have looked under crappy rocks like this before that would have terrified their fanbase. Someone probably considered Ryan Leaf after his meltdown.

Allright, sweet, we sign Russell, and we just added depth for our OL.

I've said before, his only value would be to throw a hail mary at the end of the half/game in desperation. He does have a big arm.

It's ok, Tanny clearly was high when doing this.

If Tanny was checking anything about J-Russell, it was how to avoid ending up with him on the roster... not picking him up. Good grief... even Clemens resembles an NFL QB more so than this guy.

normally, i would agree with this logic....but Russell doesn't even deserve that courtesy.

The shoddy work ethic alone should keep NFL teams from talking to this pig.

They're just bringing Jamarcus Russell in so he can eat all of Rex Ryan's food. Jamarcus Russell is the new California diet.
