I was looking at the Jets roster and as far as I can tell (either because Rex said something about them or because they made the team last year) there are 24 guys on O and 23 on D almost sure to make the team (+ 3 ST players). Along with the obvious ones I included as certain: on O -> Brunell (QB), Ainge (QB), Hunter (OT), Turner (OL), Clowney (WR), Mulligan (TE/ST) on D -> Gholston (DE?), Pitoitua (DE), Westerman (OLB), Cummings (ILB), Laury (ILB), Warren (DB) Out of all the other unheralded players who do you pick to survive the cut? I know it's a choice based almost only on college play/ you like the guy story/ you've read somewhere he's a hard-worker etc. I just wandered if, before TC, you had some favourites to root for during Hard knocks! PS Since Holmes has a 4 games suspension you must pick an extra WR. PPS You can also root for the Jets to get a vet in here instead of an unproven undrafted rook.
To me question 1 is: Will Tanny want 4 QBs on the roster yet again? If so I can see one spot being taken by O'Connell. If not however I'd like the Jets to have a 6th WR, so hopefully Britt Davis sticks around... no idea why but I've been rooting for this kid since last year. On D One of the m has to be a true CB since we only have 3 (Lowery and Warren will be used more creatively)... I'm rooting for Cole or Smith, I DO NOT want to see Coleman on this team again... although the guy has 7 lives! I also think we need another DE and between Kroul and Wright I hope Wrgiht makes the team and we can sneek Kroul to the PS once more.
Your outline doesn't make complete sense, but two small names I wouldn't mind seeing make the roster---Aundrae Allison, Kevin Basped
I don't really understand what the hell you were trying to do with this thread, so I'm doing things my own way. To me, Lance Laury has a guaranteed spot. He's the best special teams linebacker on our team. I'm not worried about him making the team, especially with Izzo and Fowler gone. On offense, I'm going to root for Joe McKnight, David Clowney, and Matt Slauson. I know McKnight won't have to fight for a roster spot, but I think this kid's got the talent to be special. He has to mature and things will fall into place. David Clowney was never going to be a starting wideout on this team. I don't know why some many had high hopes for him. With Wallace Wright leaving in free agency, we have a gunner spot open. Everyone knows Clowney has great speed - this is his last chance to make an impact. I just want Matt Slauson to win the left guard battle because I think it will be better for the future of this team. Vlad Ducasse is just incredibly raw right now. Just to be clear, I'll be rooting for both of them. On defense, I'm going to root for Matt Kroul, Rodrique Wright, and Donovan Warren. Matt Kroul reminds me so much of Kelly Gregg. I'm just hoping he'll turn into half the player that Gregg's been. I think we're going to see very good things from him as a rotational lineman. Rod Wright was once considered a top ten talent. Had he not suffered a serious shoulder injury during his senior year, he'd probably be making a lot of money in this league right now. Now that he's healthy, I'm hoping that he makes this team and becomes a long term solution at defensive end. Donovan Warren is just a talented player that slipped through the cracks. He's probably the best defensive UDFA in the entire league. Hopefully he fights hard and earns a role on this team. Kevin Basped is another player I'll be keeping a close eye on.
Donovan Warren, Joe McKnight, and Matt Slauson Slauson because I feel Vlad isn't ready to step in and start right away, plus we can potentially use Vlad as a RT in the near future, he's just so raw, I would like for Slauson to get his opportunity and for him to make the best out of it McKnight because we need someone to replace Leon, nice screen plays that can be broken into large gains, he just has the speed you want from those type of players. Warren - I think this guy has got some potential as a Safety that can make plays, he's got a rough road for him especially if Lowery goes to safety, but when it's all said and done in the future we may see a combination of Lowery and Warren as our starting safeties, that would last for years
Kevin Basped & Cory Reamer, both UDFA LB's, and I would like to see Audrae Allison push David Clowney to the FA market. Both can beat reserves on go routes but I'd like to see Allison, more so than Clowney, get a chance in the Regular Season. David got his chance and he didn't make anything happen. So... Basped Reamer Allison
1. Brunell for Veteran leadership 2. Westerman for the Rutgers connection 3. Cummings bc his last name makes me laugh
Jason Lamb, he was out waiter at that DC event and he's a great kid. Not really unknowns but certainly not knowns, lol Our very own tall receivers, coming in at a combined 12 feet, 7 inches. Britt Davis (6'3") and Marcus Henry (6'4")
Gholston--I know he's been a waste so far, but he is a pretty smart guy, and I get the feeling he's going to come off as someone who understands this is his last shot, and will work his ass off to try and finally make an impact. It's not his fault the Jets paid him so much money, and with all the Jets success last year and free agent additions, I feel like he'll go under the radar.
I've seen interviews with him, and he's pretty well-spoken, and I've read interviews where he knows to say the right thing. He's no Clowney, this guy.
On offense, I agree with all three. I think this is the year Clowney steps up and makes a few plays, although not as a starter. He has 4 games to show his worth and I think he'll be decent in those 4 games. Although Joe wouldn't fight for a roster spot, he'll have an impact on the D similar to what Greene did last year, as a breather. And Matt Slauson...I think he will provide excellent depth on the OL this year. As for D, I want to see Pitoitua make a few plays while hoping Gholston can retain a roster spot. Jamaal Westerman is my darkhorse of the year player.
He had to be good at something...but yeah, I think this year, he'll do enough to retain a roster spot for another year or two.
your three are what Hard Knocks is all about. The show focuses on the players who are at the tail end of the 53 man roster, while mixing in plenty about the top players and inside the coaches meetings and Front Office ongoings. Basped is one player I'm going to root for. They'll do a piece on him. Warren will be another, since he was the first player the Jets signed as a UDFA. Kroul could be followed throughout the whole show, since the CS seems to think he's can be developed.
He listens to Justin Bieber while Clowney organizes humanitarian missions to Haiti and Ghana. Sure he's well spoken but to me he doesn't sound like he has much to say...
Remember Allison is 1 year older than Clowney... although they both cam into the league together. To me te fact Allison was kept on IR the whole season instead of being released means the FO or the CS sees something in him... we'll see if it develops to anything good. I can see both Allison and Clowney being on the team while Holmes is suspended... it'll be fun to see who sticks around.
