Wow that is awful, good thing he got his contract in beforehand for his life/family.

Hopefully he makes a full recovery, but how does that much damage happen?

I read he was a pitcher... assuming they don't have to amputate his leg is it possible to have a baseball career as a pitcher with a bad leg?

Im a little skeptical about this picture. Look on the the left hand side. That actually looks like lightrail tracks (or some form of mass transit), which leads me to believe that this isn't a picture of his car. Unless of course they gave us the wrong story of what really happened...

I didn't read the article, just saw you mention that he hit a pole. But I don't see how there is any room for a pole on a street-rail track that is strong enough to do that. I wonder if they omitting part of the story. I've never seen a pole do that kind of damage, ever....

yeah i hear ya.. although i'm sure some of that damage is due to jaws of life, etc.... still the front of that truck is disintegrated. something is amiss.

A pole would collapse the middle of his bumper, not totally obliterate the entire front end of the car. The "jaws of life" wouldn't have done that amount of damage either. Something isn't right....

Yes, further damage was done to the vehicle by the firefighters when they had to remove the guy from it.

He was cited for careless operation of a vehicle. In looking at the street, he had to be doing something dumb to hit one of those poles, especially at around six in the morning when the road was probably mostly empty.

7 hour surgery seems to be a success at saving the leg. They have not even ruled out an eventual return to football, of course that is secondary right now.

As far as how the car got so trashed.

We literally do this 18 weeks in a row during NYJ football season but you forgot to reference drugs.
