I wear that hate as a badge of honor. People hate the Patriots for the same reason they hate the Yankees, if that helps. Being successful = people hate you. But that's not really a reason for them to end up on a list with alleged rapists and dog torturers.

    +1 for me on this.

But I've found, from experience, that if you have to stop to try to explain it to anyone, they'll just never get it.

Vick Tortured and killed living beings. Just because he served his time does not mean he is any less of a scumbag for doing it. Its not just the PETA waco's that think he is an asshole for it.

Then again maybe your that type of person that thinks electrocuting a dog is good fun. it would explain your soft spot for Vick.

Didn't you know? If a team you root for is successful that makes you special.

I'm completely shocked that Vick is more hated than* athletes with crimes against people.

I will now wear that knowledge like a badge!!

I live in New England. It's pretty remarkable how much latent racism is washed away by a decent football team.

I got nothing against Jerry Jones. He runs the team exactly the way I would if I somehow bought the Jets--with a major position in deciding personnel, and a strong preference for drafting players from my alma mater, building the most ridiculous stadium ever--dude's crazy, but he's crazy awesome.

OK, I get that part. You guys need to be hyper-hostile toward any Pats fan that has the audacity to show up here and post about pretty much anything. The passive-aggressive shtick, got it. And I'm impressed. And very intimidated, clearly.

But where the hell did that come from? Did something I posted imply racism somehow?

But really tho, what exactly do you mean by "wear the hate as a badge of honor"?

    Never heard that phrase?

Basically all I meant, as a lifelong Patriots fan, is that it's actually nice to have the team be hated so much by rival fans. The reason is that no one hated the Patriots when I'd go to games at their crappy old stadium, sitting on frozen aluminum benches, watching them get dookie stomped by every team in the league.

I understand a lot of people see them as pompous, arrogant, cocky, etc. But every multiple championship team in the history of all pro sports - not just football - is viewed that way by some people. When your favorite team is hated, it kind of means they've arrived... you know? People didn't like the 49ers of the 80s, the Cowboys of the 90s, etc-etc. But those were great teams when you look at it objectively.

For an example closer to home for you guys... people across the league are starting to dislike the Jets a little. Why? Because they're starting to get good - real good.

And relative to earlier references... I personally contributed nothing at all to the Patriots' successes, so that's not what I meant at all. I've just been a fan of the team for over 30 years and have seen the ups and downs. I moved to NH a few years ago and gave up my season tickets, so I don't even contribute financially anymore.

Actually, the Cowboys were labeled America's team. Sure people disliked those teams, but even the most casual NFL fans who root for their team only if they get offered tickets by happen stance can appreciate:

Belichick is a smarmy jerk with no personality, and the face of the franchise, Tom Brady seems like a nice guy who poses lovingly with goats while looking for supermodel adventures as he learns his girlfriend is pregnant.

I think the Patriots had great potential to be America's new Team especially with their namesake and their dynasty starting in 2001. But then, it was revealed that there was cheating behind the success and people just can't respect that.

Your badge is a derivative of cheating.

What a joke - I don't give you a second thought, and couldn't care less if you're "intimidated" or not. I do, however, think it is hysterically funny when a fan thinks that the success of a team reflects well on them, and I've said that many times to Jets fans here over the years (especially the Yankees fans who do the same thing), as many other posters could attest.

It would be perfectly reasonable for BB or Brady to say that they wear the hate as a badge of honor, since they've earned that right. For you to say it is pathetic.

There, is that less passive and more aggressive?

Come on folks, when the Jets start stomping people on a routine basis we'll love it too.

Even last year the Jets were getting a ton of hate, and I for one loved it.

Hey it's your opinion... knock yourself out. You're a Jets fan, so what else am I supposed to expect? Verbal bouquets?

One thing though, the "America's Team" moniker actually goes back to the 70s. It didn't originate with the 90s version of the Cowboys. I don't know how old you are but trust me, football fans outside of Texas hated that team with a passion.

OK, well at least now I understand where your misguided animosity is coming from.

The phrase "badge of honor" was not a reference to any credit I should get as a fan, or a reflection of me personally in any way whatsoever. I can't state that clearly enough. I'm just a fan... that's all. I have no impact on the New England Patriots.

It's a phrase people use, man. It's not my fault if you completely and totally misinterpreted it.

Certainly not. I was referring to a general characteristic that seems to apply to a large majority of your fellow badgeholders. I mean NE isn't exactly a fount of racial tolerance is it? I'm not making this up.
