I think the Jets might cut him but then again they may not. Do you guys think Blaylock will have a good season this year and split carries with martin or do you guys think he is done with the New york jets? Do you guys think think Blaylock has a future as a RB for the New York Jets?
Blaylock ran behind a great O-line in KC and had a few good games. I don't think he brings any outstanding skills to the team and wouldn't be sad at all if he was cut.
Leon Washington is Blaylock with far more upside, and with Blaylock being a "speed back", coming off of a broken foot doesnt help. case in point, if we do runningback by committee id like to see Martin get 50 percent of the carries, Houston 30, Washington 20. Houston and Washington have more time to prove themselves, Blaylock is nothing but a another roster space that will have to be filled with another drafted RB in 1-2 yrs. cuz we surely know Blaylock is not the answer. let Martin finish his career while the young guns Houston/Washington take their lumps and step up.
I wasn't impressed with his limited carries last year; seemed to run straight up, and seemed to always run right into the pile. I understand that it will cost us more to release him this year than to keep him, but if he doesn't show something in TC I wouldn't let that deter me from opening up the roster spot for someone else...
Beggars can't be choosers. Blaylock is a great special teams player, too. I'd like to see what he can do with a good offensive line in front of him (not saying our O-line will be the league's best in '06, but it should be markedly better). Long term, his skill set may be duplicative of Leon Washington's, but we should see how he plays in 2006 and make a decision to keep him or cut him after the season.
We don't really need him anyway..... Martin will be doing much of the work and I think Houston has alot of talent. I don't think he's our future yet though. I want to see him in action first. Our new team that is....
bye bye blaylock. he doesnt deserve millions of dollars. he's a stupid bradway guy who must be destroyed. get rid of his salary and we could sign 3 late round draft picks with that cash including neon leon baby
I think the Jets would be wise to carry four HBs if they are paying for them anyway, at least until Curtis's situation is clear. If he's anywhere between 80-100%, we won't need a role-player like Blaylock, but if CMart is injured we will want someone like Blaylock with serious pro experience, however underwhelming, to pace the rookie Washington and nearly-rookie Houston.
If the Jets cut Blaylock it would not be a great loss. With Cedric Houston and Leon Washington I believe the Jets have good back ups for Martin. I hope they lean on the youngsters more this year for the running game.
Blaylock is not making millions this year, I believe his salary is about $550K. Cutting him will cost us more in dead money than keeping him (I'm sure Jetsin2004 could provide all of the contractual details if he stops by). With that said, as I previously mentioned that still would not deter me from dropping him if he doesn't show anything in TC. No more guaranteed roster spots in my book....
Blaylock is making $1,225,000 this year. For all of the people who say it would cost more to cut him than keep him are wrong. Prior to 6/1 they would be correct (the cap hit would've been $2,560,000). If he is indeed a June 1st cut, it will only be a $640,000 penalty
Personally - I think I'll leave it up to our new CS. Blaylock had some flashes of ability in KC and here before he got hurt. I don't know enough about him, so let's see what mini camp brings and let our coaches take a look.
