http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/13965/new-york-jets-weakness-safety Jeremy Green obviously doesn't know very much about the Jets. There is no mention here about James "Tiger Woods" Ihedigbo or UDFA Donovan Warren. The depth is not bad at all.
This is very bleacherreport-ish. Looks like this guy got bored and started talking about some stuff he knows nothing about.
The jets biggest weakness is figuring out how to pay our core players. Wait nevermind, we have tannenbaum.
We have four solid Safetys, and hopefully this Don Warren(5th) character turns out to be something. Brodney Pool is going to make plays this year.
For each situational play, we have a player that can easily make plays - Passing Game - Pool / James "Tiger Woods" Ihedigbo / Jim Leonhard - Running Game - Eric Smith / Jim Leonhard Donovan Warren is the Wildcard here, until next year's draft we don't have to worry about Safeties I hate when ESPN Analysts look up stats and think that they know everything about a player
No doubt about it. I'm sure Rex talked to his brother before we signed him, and I bet Rex is 100% sure that he can put Pool in the position to make plays for this team.
What about the DL? Not that its a BAD group, but if any part of the team may have question marks, I'd say you'd have to lump the DL in there as well.
I mean to be fair it is our weakest point (well either this or whoever ends up replacing Faneca) At every other position we either got 1st round picks, probowlers, or something damn close to it. We basically only have 1 safety who has been a consistent starter, and hes not exactly physically on the same level as other top safeties in the game (Although hes got more heart than any player on this team) I really dont see nothing wrong with saying safety is our weakest point. I mean next year I could absolutely see us drafting a safety with one of our early picks, especially since Rex isnt a fan of drafting DL early.
Crippling? When you already admit that a GREAT defense isn't strong at Safety - How in the world would a loss there cripple anything.... A loss at their top positions like CB would be alot more crippling and make the Safetey thing more of an issue..... And, of course you have to realize the Jets D was damn good last year with an issue at Safety and without Jenkins and all the CB talent they added....
I wasn't even thinking about that. Yet another reason why Green doesn't know what he's talking about.
Biggest weakness is Schottenheimer who doesnt seem to understand that the Jets strength is power running, not passing. The Jets win with excellent run blocking and power running, not trick plays and bombs to Braylon Edwards. If Ryan didnt step in with offense last year the Jets wouldnt have made playoffs, they should have kept Washington and got rid of Schottenheimer. How many time last year did the jets get a nice first down run of 4 or 5 yards than that nitwit called 2 pass plays and they went 3 and out ?
I don't even think the guy that wrote that article is that far off in theory. It just didn't make sense to me when he mentioned that we have "unimpressive" depth or when he made it sound like Eric Smith is/was a starter. No one knows what we're going to get from Brodney Pool and Jim Leonhard is an overachiever talent-wise so I'll agree that safety is the least "impressive" position on the team.
