I remember when he was cut - Mike Westoff was on one of the sports talk shows for a long interview after the season and he was KILLING Graham.. He was talking about "watch out for some real good Punt returns" Since Graham was in the playoffs that year..... I forget exactly but, I was quite shocked at how Open Westoff was in absolutley brutalizing this guy and saying he was just horrible. No sure if it was hang time, placement, inconsistency or whatever but, I'm 100% sure Mike Westoff Was 110% Anti-Ben Graham and wanted nothing to do with him ever again.
Sadly, after I go and say this is a non-issue, Folk goes out and misses 4 straight FGs in OTAs today. Rex said in his presser afterward that if he doesn't start making some they'll go out and get another kicker. Rex did say, however, that if Feely was still here, Jason Taylor wouldn't be. And it seems Rex prefers to have Taylor.
FTR: Nick Folk was nailing his FGs today. Stitser was horrible though. According to Manish Mehta, he missed a 48 yarder wide left by about 30 yards. He said Stitser missed from 48, 33, and 41. By the end of the weekend only Nick Folk will be with the team. Mehta claims Folk was sharp, only mentioned him drilling a 49 yarder though.
I think you need to prepare yourself for the probability that no scrub kicker we bring in will beat Folk out for the K job.
Nick Folk redeemed himself a bit this week but we really need a good directional punter. With this defense a good directional punter kicking inside the 10 (or at least the 20) would be a death trap.
Steve Weatherford is generally considered to have one of the best hang times of any punter in the league. There is a reason he led the entire NFL in punts for fair catch in 2009 and returners averaged only 2.9 yards per return against him. If you are an inexperienced football observer and don't know what you are talking about, you might want to think twice about starting critical threads. There are 25+ teams in the league that would jump at the chance to take Weatherford off your roster.
Unfortunately, this guy posted a couple times in the Chargers gametime forum so this is not Steve Weatherford. Unless of course he uses the internet when he's not kicking like Ocho and twitter. Either way that gave me a good laugh.
He's a good player. Doesn't deserve the criticism. If all you care about is distance, you can find 10+ free agents out there who can outkick their coverage and allow guys to take-it-to-the-house every 10th punt.
