sounds like it... although based on what pettine said, he sounds like he might be a PS guy this year, and challenge for a roster spot in 2011...

Basped is this year's Westerman. Reading his scouting reports, I really liked him as a late round pass rushing candidate. I'd be shocked if he didn't make the team.

His best chance of making the 53 man roster this season and staying off the PS is to become a special teams monster for us!

Honestly, hearing about guys like this is my favorite part of the offseason. Especially if this guy flourishes. But if not, if he becomes a good back up OLB and special teamer it would be amazing value for us.

I hate the fact that he went to UNR but 23 sacks in only 3 years of play isn't bad. He skipped his senior year but red shirted one year as well. UNR played a 4-3 so I don't know how that translates to the Jets but as a rusher maybe he can learn a thing or two from JT.

He wouldn't be here if he wasn't what Rex and Pettine are looking for in an OLB.

From what I've heard, he's got good size and speed but poor instincts. Talk about "anti-Gholston".

I feel like Rex is determined to turn an undrafted defensive free agent into a star, ala Bart Scott (or Jim Leonhard, to a slightly lesser degree). Hence Basped, hence Westerman.

    That's awesome, by the way.

What about Reamer? Has anyone heard anything on how he's been doing?

Doesn't good size, good speed, and poor instincts make him a min-Gholston? Gholston's problem isn't speed or size or strength, it's toughness/intelligence on the field.

come on guys, he said anti gholston because the guy is actually showing improvement on his weaknesses. something gholston never did and with his position change never will.

Basped is a kid I was really high on before:

    and after the draft:

He's got terrific athletic potential, and I think will make it to the 53 man. Like I said, Westy's bulk and lack of explosive potential might make him a better fit at ILB down the line. Basped would be a good man to keep as the 4th OLB, and I'd rather have someone like him over a kid like Murrell who's probably not going to turn into much.
