What an unbelivable guy Wayne is. His attitude, work ethic, and willingness to pay the price signifies what all football players, and especially wide receivers should be. He was not a primadonna attention whoring player, but a hard nosed, meat and potatoes, work your ass off for the team sort of player that personally has been the most inspiring football player for me during the time I played. Watching that video makes you realise how much the Jets, and even the NFL, will miss his presence on the field. Some of the quotes that stuck out: "I said to myself, if they're gonna label me a third down receiver oor a posession receiver, fine, then I'm gonne be the best there ever was at it." "I realised early on, they're gonna hit you whether you catch it or not, and it hurts alot less if you catch it." "To be honest with you I didn't care, the bigger the hit, the better the play felt." "I could never go out there and shy away from the contact, I like it, I like the contact, I crave it right now." Just watch it...makes me wish I still played. I don't care what he did or did not do on the field, if you wanna see a football player, you just have to look at Wayne Chrebet. Just look at the clip of him going to block Ray Lewis, he knew what was gonna happen and he didn't care. He gave it all, all the time, and it is a shame he is gone.
wayne will always be one of my favorite jets, what an inspiration...my first jersey was a wayne jersey and i still have it.
living outside of the metro area as a Jets fan, I'll tell you Chrebet is one player any Jets hater I've met has had utter respect for. Definitely one of the best "clutch recievers" ive seen in a long time. he will be missed but it was just his time.
I just hope he knows how much he meant to Jets fans....and that he showed every kid out there who is doubted for whatever reason that with hard work and dedication you can beat the odds.
Chrebet played with class every time he stepped on to the field. Homegrown who never even thought about leaving. His number should be retired.
Ya and to think no NFL team wanted him cause they didnt think he was good enough. looks like they shot them selfs in the foot.
He is pure class and pure JETS. I will miss his great catches. I agree wih penny10jet- His number should be retired.
Awesome video. And while it was very inspiring, I noticed that his wife is very cute. It's tough to see a guy like him who went through all the hard times and came so close in 1998, but never ended up being on a championship team. Stayed loyal to the Jets even if they did suck for his early years, and it's also tough to say that after seeing that video that his number shouldn't be retired.
Agreed, 100%. Not only for what he accomplished as a player, but also for the person he is and the example he set for football players and also the general public.
