    8 years, 125 mil. with 90 guaranteed.

Lock him up for the prime of his career.... unless he's the next Darrell Green. Then he gets another contract.

I'd rather give him a deal that paid him the market rate for the best CB in the NFL in any season in which he made the Pro Bowl and gave him the average of the top 5 salaries in any year in which he didn't. This is a bad year to try to lock anybody up for a long period of time because of all the uncertainty about the rules moving forward.

What if the new CBA has the kind of salary cap built in that the small market teams want?

In a fixed deal that Jets might be unable to cut Revis because of the prorated bonus and also unable to afford to keep him because he was way outpacing the cost of any individual defender in the NFL. They might be unable to keep Mark Sanchez, for example, and Darrelle Revis at the same time.

The Vinny Testaverde cap situation cost the Jets a lot of maneuverability in his latter years with the Jets. Aaron Glenn had to be sent packing in a very unfavorable deal just to cut cap space. I'd rather tie any long-term deal with Revis to the context in which it will exist. If that can't be done then the Jets are better off waiting for the new CBA to see what the economic terms are. We're not in the economy of 2006 and I'd be shocked if the owners agree to any deal that does not cut player compensation at least somewhat, and not just by a rookie cap.

3 different reporters tweeted about talking to Revis at the same time.

    Jenny Vrentas:

Revis said agents are still "digesting" contract + he hasn't looked at it. "There's no rush; I'm good," he said. #nyj

    Manish Mehta:

No news on Darrelle Revis' contract talks. He said it's pretty much status quo as of right now. Nothing imminent. #jets #nfl #nyj

    Rich Cimini:

Darrelle Revis says there has been no progress in contract negotiations. Sounds like they're very far apart.

Rich Cimini is a worthless cunt.

What I like is that the Jets are being proactive about locking Revis up long term, the guy is the best player in the league on the defensive side of the ball and the Jets know this. However see the situation in Nashville with Chris Johnson and the Titans. They won't even talk to him... disgusting.

Cimini is useless. Even now, when his garbage is put on display to be compared to real journalism he continues his garbage.

I actually tweeted to Mehta yesterday that he's the best thing to ever happen to NYJ media. His response was something along the lines of "Wow. Thank you, but 'the best ever'? Really? Wow." He's good and doesn't even know it. Cimini is shit and doesn't care.

Ha, even though he's wrong you can't be upset at a guy that gives props to another one of our players.

Cimini: Jet and Revis have not committed to a deal....I think Revis is retiring and going to become a cashier.

If you are going to just speculate, might as well go all out Cimini.
