It seems some of the core guys are jumping to get a new contract before their old one expires. Obviously they want the big payday now fearing a Leon Washington injury would impact their FA. Not that they shouldn't get paid but if I'm the Jets why do I want to jump the gone on a year under contract. Would if one of them blow out a knee and the Jets hold a 5 year contract? It's funny the double standard for the players but not the owners. The ball players signed the contracts and could have just held out for more money. But these players are very smart, signing 3 to 5 year deals in their prime giving the team a peak at their talent, sorta like a heroin dealer dolling out dime bags to get their customers hooked. Once the player blossoms into an all star a la Revis, Mangold, Harris, the talking to the media about a new contract begins. The bottom line this is just a business and all the cum bye ah shit is just a smoke screen. With economy in terrible shape and many Americans out of work, you think maybe these players would lighten up on the "pay me" attitude. Look at Haynesworth, that fat piece of shit who basically got a contract and stopped working. Same story with J.Russell. Many of you guys are young have not experienced any financial hardship and hopefully you will never have to. However, for us older folks it does make my stomach turn to see how greed never goes out of style.
because the team doesn't want the player's contract to expire at which point they become free agents and risk losing them. you see, when a player becomes a free agent, they have the option of signing with another team, a team that may offer them more money than the Jets. you mention you are an old timer, so I'm going to assume the concept of free agency is still lost on you and you are simply used to the good ol'days when there was no free agency in sports. that's the only way this concept could be confusing. the Jets avoid this risk of losing players in free agency or having to bid against other teams for their own players by locking up key players they aren't even remotely interested in letting go of before they ever reach free agency.
Hmm..but that's 3 years from now, not after the upcoming year. Do you really they will sit out three years? I think they deserve new deals but if they don't get them now I don't see a problem with it. They weren't Tom Brady who was a 6th round pick and paid basically nothing. Both were firsts and both have already made good money.
I don't see anything wrong with our core players asking for more money, they obviously deserve it. I don't know if theres any grounds for me to think this, but I like to think that our players know that their extensions will come, but it might be later rather than sooner, and wont get their panties in a bunch over it.
who said anyone is sitting out? if you are certain you are going to keep a player, you keep them happy, and it is possible that a player making good money is already outperforming that contract even though it is good money and deserves to be upped accordingly.
Not for nothing people, but I see this on the site all the time. When the hell did a paragraph become two sentences? I'm starting to buy into this whole ADD and ADHD hype...
Look at all sportswriting, and most online articles. On a computer, the spacing is much easier to read and follow.
