It's still considered a lateral move. Unless he gets OC there is very little chance that Al Davis lets him walk and unless it's a HC job then Davis can still block a potential move. And are you suggesting that Hackett or anyone else take over as OC when Ryan has a great run-oriented option at OC(Callahan) and a coaching option he knows and has trusted since his days in Baltimore(Cavanaugh)? Why not just bring in Gannon to be the QB assistant, that way you get someone with Hackett's QB coaching philosophy with (relatively)recent experience playing at a highly successful level without having to dismantle the offensive coaching system that Rex has already put in place?
Been a fan long? Paul Hackett was the anti-christ for us for yeeeeearrrss. One of the worst offensive coors we EVER, EVER HAD. You been a fan long?
Ok...I'll type very slowly...OC and QB coach are two entirely different jobs. Are you really making the argument that the guy that coached Joe Montana,Rich Gannon, and Chad Pennington is a bad coach? $1.00 Here's a dollar. Go buy a clue.
They do the assistang HC/OC all the time. No lat move, you just have to pay the guy... No. what I am suggesting is that you put a bright guy in place to learn from all three to be available when the better guys get hired away
Yes, and Callahan has the assistant HC title right now and was the running game coordinator, making him the de-facto Asst. OC as well. What are the odds that all three get hired away in the same or consecutive seasons? If one goes then you have to believe the Jets will make the move to hire either Callahan or Cavanaugh as the long-term solution at OC. As it stands right now, wouldn't Gannon already fill the quadruple-deck roll, anyway?
You add Joe Montana name in there? Nice one. Hahah! What about JaMarcus Russell? You didnt list him. Odd. Why dont you just stop now. Any Jets fan will back me up. NO ONE WANTS PAUL HACKETT BACK HERE.
Do we really need to argue over Paul Hackett? He has a job with a team that will not let him move laterally to the Jets, and we have every position above him filled in and with a backup in place already. There is no reason for him to come here.
I agree with you, but when someone runs around here calling Paul Hackett the greatest QB coach in the history of the NFL, and we as Jets fans have watched him as our O-Coor, im going to say something about it. Paul Hackett might be the worst offensive coor. the Jets EVER HAD. He'll never be allowed back in here.
I hate agreeing with Hobbes but he is right about one thing: OC is a different job from QB coach. There is no way to sell Hackett coming back to the Jets in any capacity to the majority of the fans but a lot of the QBs who came out from under his wing had a lot of success, minus his last two jobs. Gannon raves about the guy.
Thanks Bro  and to the second point...as QB coach...maybe 10 guys here would notice. Right now, without google 10 guys couldn't tell you who the current QB coach is..and that includes JFW (Matt Cavanaugh)
Dude, seriously. Take about 7 steps back from your keyboard and just stop posting and READ. There were plenty of posts explaining this to you. God himself didn't make Jamarcus Russell into a QB... he's more of a left tackle. Paul Hackett is renowned and respected for his ability to mold QBs. Nobody wants him as an OC. Go start a poll and find out. I'm betting its 85% or better pro-Hackett as a QB coach.
I believe that, but I would be willing to bet that there are MANY instances in which the WR can take at least partial blame for the INTs of a given QB. Hell, before the Giants played the Patriots in the Super Bowl, Trent Dilfer analyzed Eli's 20 INTs for that year and determined that only 8 of them were completely Eli's fault. I think he said about 5 could go either way (simple case of WR and QB miscommunication) and that 7 were not his fault at all (I think 5 of those 7 were on Shockey). I think he said similar analysis can be done on most QBs. But it makes even more sense here because Edwards is a deep threat, that makes throwing to him will be inherently more dangerous, and because he's new to the team and hasn't been working with Sanchez long. Oh, Sanchez being a rookie probably factors in to this as well. I think the INT numbers will go down if the Jets play with the same offensive mentality they did last season. If they put more of the burden on the passing game, I think that will change things.
That's certainly a part of it, and Gannon's suggestion that a third were Edwards' fault seems over the top. But I can definetely recall a handful of picks where Edwards appeared to have either run the wrong route, or he and Sanchez weren't quite on the same page as far as how the route should be run, and even one or two where Edwards looked like he gave up on a ball in traffic. If Gannon is trying to make Edwards the goat, I think that's a mistake. But Edwards certainly could benefit from both more time spent working with Sanchez, and more time spent looking in the mirror (not in the literal sense, I think he does that plenty, in the metaphysical sense of "how good am I really and how can I improve my game")
Oh, I dunno, I'm not all that much into Raiders' stink. I mean, I like the way my dog smells, which is a good stink, but Raider's stink, that's part homeless guy pee and part hot puke on the Summer pavement.
