I just think we should cut KC, keep Ainge and O'Connell. Thats good enough for now till training camp starts. I wouldn't mind giving Brett Ratliff another chance.
Yes, I do. Rick Mirer was the veteran backup and he sucked absolute shit. Ray Lucas was in his 4th year in the league and he had a winning record as a starter that season. I don't trust Brunell and I don't trust Bulger to go in if Sanchez goes down. I think they're both shot. Garcia seems to have the Favre ageless thing going for him but I just can't bring myself to agree to the Jets signing him. Ainge has been in the same system for three seasons, now. I think it's worth giving him a shot.
a thing to remember with brunell is that he's a left handed thrower which jacks up all your pass protection since Woody now has the blindside of the QB, which probably isnt the best idea. either way, if Sanchez goes down for any extended period, we are fucked. Otherwise, I am fine rolling with one of our current backups who know the offense well, preferably, Ainge, if we need to play one.
Keep Klemens, hes been a good soldier, hes got talent, just hasnt much of a chance to develope it. I was at the last training camp at Hofstra when Pennington was still around, Klemens has a very good arm.
No-one who watched that game against the Bucs last season would ever want to see Clemens in a Jets shirt again. I still think we could do a lot worse than Daunte Culpepper as a veteran backup.
Clemens is still useful... As a piece in order to perform a sign-and-trade for Brunell. That is assuming anyone not in the UFL wants Clemens on their roster.
Final 8 rules... Theoretically if anyone wanted Clemens they could have him in exchange for making Brunell available to us through this sort of maneuver.
You are overrating Brunell. He will only get worse and was pretty terrible last year. KC has more upside to him than Brunell does at this point in time of his career. I'd rather keep KC than Brunell. Brunell will be 40 and the only QB I know that played ok in his 40s was Vinny. And there is no comparison between Vinny and Brunell. No way Brunell plays close to as good as Vinny did. Just look at his play in last season or the pre season.
Not sure what the fascination with Ainge is. He's a nut job that never came close to playing to his talent at UT. UT fans still hate him. He did well in a few preseason games against players that didn't make it onto NFL rosters the same as Clemens did his first two years. If Ainge came close to the talent of Clemens, why couldn't he pass KC on the depth chart these past two years? Why would the Jets give KC a raise to stay ahead of Ainge? Why would the Jets give Det a conditional draft pick for O'Connell if they thought Ainge was a decent backup? Sorry, Ainge is NOTHING.
Like Mangini, I'd rather have Ratcliff then Ainge. The problem with Gholston is that he was told to hit the QB and they sent in Ainge. Vernon became so confused since there wasn't a QB out there to hit. Thus he forgot how to play football.
You're missing the point entirely. Assuming anyone even wants Clemens, and that's a big IF, they could have him for free by helping the Jets circumvent the final 8 rules through a sign and trade. Whatever that said team may be shouldn't be looking at it as trading for an even shittier QB since Brunell may not have wanted to play for that team to begin with.
