Some of these moves today were a bit tough to stomach but can understand they were prob for the best long-term. However, I think it is very important for the coming season that the Jets now go out and give a long-term extension to one of the key vets. My vote would be for Mangold. Cutting TJ, Faneca, trading Leon - these things could potentially weigh down the locker room. Add that to some of the past moves as well (trading Vilma, Kendall fiasco). See Damien Woody's twitter reactions after the moves and you'll see what I mean. Now the jets FO needs to rebuild some faith amongst the players by stepping up and paying one of their guys. Mangold is an excellent player and locker room guy, if they other players see the Jets FO take care of him, I think it will improve the morale of the locker room. I know they are all high-paid professionals, but I feel that locker room chemistry and even Karma can go a long way towards a winning season or playoff run. A long term extension for Mangold, Brick, Harris, or Revis is the right thing to do right now, and could settle the team down in all sorts of ways. Just my 2 cents, thanks guys.
To counter that, alot of us cutting and trading these people away was to make sure there was cash to sign key core vets.
True, true. The moves do seem to indicate that - just want to make sure they step up and hopefully do it soon. Also, I think its important to extend one of the homegrown jets that we drafted, rather than save for a guy we traded for (Braylon, Cro, Santonio). Important that we take care of our own and not "some other teams guy"
Who cares what Damien Woody thinks? The front office runs the team not Woody who is probably next to go anyway.I am happy with the moves we are making.Id rather cut Faneca, trade Leon and be able to resign Revis, Mangold, Holmes, Harris etc.
Good points - but also keep in mind while the front office runs the team, the players have are the ones we have to count on each week. Now again, they are professionals, who are extremely high paid, so that should be expected - but you gotta think the mood of the locker room comes into play a tiny bit.
I think Woody is gone when his contract runs out. RT is the next place to upgrade, then RG..... then the Jets can wait 4 years until maybe, maybe someone isn't living up to par.
True... I don't know the contract situations of all the guys, but there are plenty that need to be paid and retained in the next few years: D'Brick Mangold 1 WR (Holmes or Braylon) Revis Harris Cromartie if he works out Keller
