The way I see it, there are four more positions that, if they are addressed properly, will make the Jets the "winners" of the draft. The question is whether or not it can be pulled off - Right now it's looking unlikely, but hey, who thought Wilson would fall to 29? Oh yeah, and I'm also reposting some stuff that I threw in another thread because apparently people here (a) ignore the existence of Lamarr Houston and (b) have never heard of Daniel Te'o-Nesheim. Offensive Lineman Wish List OL Vladimir Ducasse, UMass Vladimir Ducasse played against lower level competition at UMass but is prized as a big, powerful road grader who has great pro potential. He has not been playing football for very long, making his ability to come in and play based on instincts, which is always a huge plus. While he played left tackle for UMass, he is expected to either switch to the right side or slide inside to guard when he moves up to the NFL. OG John Jerry, Mississippi He has played guard and right tackle in his college career and is expected to have that same versatility in the pros, as well. His brother, Peria, plays defensive tackle in the NFL, so the bloodline factor is there. Another big bodied road grader that the Jets would love to have helping with the run game. 3-4 Defensive Lineman Wish List Cam Thomas, UNC http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Npe9dFUyGJ4 Cam Thomas is a big body with strength, drive, and potential. He has trouble disengaging from blockers but can move them around while he's tangled with them, which is a great skill to have to close up running lanes. Thomas has the versatility to play both end and nose in the 3-4, though he will most likely start off at the former position. Lamarr Houston, Texas http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4M0Mn3o8KBY Lamarr Houston has great size and strength to play the 3-4 end position. He can power through double teams, anchor against the run, and disengage from blockers to make the tackle. On top of that, when compared to most 3-4 defensive ends, he has the ability to become a great pass rusher in the mold of Shaun Ellis. Alex Carrington, Arkansas State http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAvEloMMOhQ More of a 4-3 left defensive end, Carrington still has the strength and ability to play the 5 technique in the 3-4, unlike another 4-3 LDE, Corey Wootton. 3-4 Outside Linebacker Wish List Just remember, Rex Ryan likes bigger pass rushers (Adalius Thomas, Terrell Suggs, now Jason Taylor) that have strength. Koa Misi doesn't have that strength. Kindle doesn't. Sapp and Worilds don't, either. Who is left, then? Daniel Te'o-Nesheim, Washington http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmv0jJqpYMg He didn't play against major competition, but Daniel Te'o-Nesheim dominated opposing offensive linemen. He has the prototypical size you want out of your rush linebacker and has all the measurables to go along with it. He is a high motor player who had great production his senior year. What else could you ask from the kid? Brandon Sharpe, Texas Tech http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILiCH69hto8 He isn't explosive off of the line but has a lot going for him. Against the run, he is strong enough to hold his ground and can disengage from his blocker well. As far as pass rushing goes, he has a wide array of moves and is very good at slanting and stunting. Like most college defensive ends transitioning to the 3-4, he will have to learn coverage. Running Back Wish List Toby Gerhart, Stanford http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVf_74OGjDE He should have won the Heisman. He should be rated as a first rounder or early second rounder. He will prove people wrong at the next level. LeGarrette Blount, Oregon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPjKLI9u8i4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82cWHFN_YKE LenDale White if he wasn't chubby. A powerful, punishing runner who doesn't quit. He should be a steal in the later rounds due to his inability to keep his hands to himself. To recap, if the Jets can get one player from three of these four lists, then when you combine that with the Wilson pick, they had a great draft. If they can pick up one from each, then Tanny brought the Ditka and the Jets "won the draft".
His numbers are inflated due to playing in a gimmicky pistol-option offense at Auburn. He got most of his yards bouncing the ball to the outside and getting option pitches on the edge. He looks good but is unproven in a role that would actually translate to the NFL. He, without a doubt, has the physical ability. There just isn't any real film on him. He has a big frame and powers through contact but tends to avoid it more than you'd want from a big back. Yes, I know, contact is always the second option for the runner, but when you have a bigger back (and Tate, at 220, is considered a bigger back), they should have all appearances of punishing defenders and utilizing that size of theirs. Tate isn't considered bad. He's considered a question mark. Forgive me, I still don't consider the PAC-10 the equivalent of the SEC or ACC. I throw it in the middle with the Big 10, Big 12 and Big East.
Yes. Headshot. Conference is everything. USC and Washington had the same difficulty of schedule. Mr.E sure schooled me.
Still, it's not like he played in a mid-major conference or in the FCS. The PAC 10 has a lot of talent. Saying that he didn't play against major competition doesn't make sense, considering the PAC 10 is a Big Six conference. Also, the ACC is a very mediocre conference. It has a lot of potential to be good, but almost every team underachieves in that conference. ...just look at their performances in BCS bowls.
...and Washington beat USC. The PAC 10 is a pretty good conference. I agree that it's not the best conference in college football, but saying that players in the PAC 10 aren't major competition is wrong.
Well yeah, it isn't like he played CUSA or MAC. He played against inconsistent competition, if you really want to nitpick. And the PAC-10 did worse than the ACC in bowl games last year.
Dear god, no. Blount is horrendous. I have absolutely no inkling whatsoever why he's a mid-round projection. I love Tate. I think someone's getting a 3rd round steal in him.
I'm just curious: What's wrong with LeGarrette Blount? Do you think he's too slow? Does he have fumblitis? Does he not break enough tackles for your liking?
From what i saw in the video Daniel Te'o-Nesheim is a beast! I know its a highlight tape but he looked good. I dont follow college as much as i would like so does anyone know if he ever dropped into coverage? Also how big is he? height/weight?
Personally, I don't like how he tries to avoid contact for his size. He just doesn't lower his shoulder enough.
