I will agree with the motivation difference. Mays might have been a top 10 pick if he came out a year ago. Now being a 2nd rounder he would enter the league with something to prove perhaps.

i watched mays when i was at usc and must say that he is one freakish athlete

however, he often seemed to disappear throughout the course of games and i think this past season really exposed his inconsistency

the jets defensive scheme would be great for him though

Taylor Mays would be awesome. Revis can teach him how to cover and get more flexible hips.

Can you imagine this guy coming up from the safety position and having Ronnie Brown or Spiller in his sights? With his straight line speed and hitting ability, what are they going to do make a cut back? Oh yeah baby......... He will be like the Jets version of Ryan Howard or Mark Reynolds.

Taylor Mays needs to be converted to a LB ala Urlacher otherwise he will just be a Roy Williams v2

His tackling is nowhere near as good as Urlacher's. Mays is a project regardless of which position he plays. He has to work on a lot of fundamentals before he can make a legit impact on the field.

^ thank you, someone agrees with me and sees my same vision.

Tell me 1st off why does he need to be this incredible cover guy RIGHT NOW for our system? all he has to do is help Cromartie or Revis over the top from time to time... ok JUST Cromartie lol

So a player that is ready to absorb all that he can cant learn better coverage techniques from the best corner in the leauge and the best defencive coach in the league? someone please explain to me why.

This kid would be perfect to drop down in the box laying the wood on somebody with Leonard up top in coverage

I've been a big Mays supporter for a while. If we moved up for him, I'd be pretty thrilled.

I think I would rather sit at 61 and take Morgan Burnett if he falls though.

Sadly, Mays is a classic tweener. Not really a safety and not really a linebacker. We already have one of those playing the nickel safety spot. Eric Smith.

I'm sure Rex could figure out ways to use him, especially on blitz packages, but I'm not sure his instincts are good enough.

That said, if he lasts until 61, not a bad pick.

What's to like about Taylor Mays? Great size. Great timed speed. Big hitting ability...

What's not to like? A total liability in coverage. An inconsistent tackler. Not a play-maker by any stretch.

I'd prefer a safety that could cover, make plays and consistently wrap up, which he hasn't done.

IMO he's a day 3 prospect to me... I don't see why he's rated so highly by some. To me, he's probably the most overrated player in the draft.

Also, Jets the secondary coach was apparently extremely unimpressed with Mays in workouts.. I think whoever gets him will be quite disappointed.

I think Iggy mentioned this earlier, Thurman all but called him a bust in a radio interview after his workout.

Also, he cannot tackle. He can hit, but he cannot tackle.

Yep. He called him explosive, but with terrible hips and fluidity. In other words, he can run and hit, but he can't move. May seem like semantics, but it's really not.

Uhmm revis cant teach him how to cover i think its a little bit too late for that, on thing i do like about Mays is his passion for football, saying that if we go safety i want Burnett
