Sims hasn't been good or even average since 2007. The guy has zero football instincts and has steadily regressed since his rookie year. He's been the biggest disappointment on the team, IMO. Good value trade for the Eagles, though.
Did you see the contract they gave Burleson? They're going to feel like complete idiots when he breaks his ankle jogging to get water. If he stays healthy, he'll be a great compliment to Calvin Johnson.
rofl wow theyre moronic. Ive watched Ernie since his freshman year at FSU and hes been one of the few bright spots in DET. I guess theyre really trying to make sure Stafford shines, but what a horrible move. they couldve kept building around the kid on DEF and jus gotten another weapon on offense via the draft. now they have a hole to fill at LB because they wanted a 2nd TE receiving threat? its no wonder Sanders quit, he was the last good move they made.
Detroit feels like they already have a replacement with DeAndre Levy. He's going to be a hell of a player. I still don't see why they couldn't use Sims at another linebacker spot. Oh well.
Levy is going to start at MLB. They have to have something else in the hopper or they just simply really like the LB prospects that should be there in the 2nd and beyond. I'm telling you, Sims has been bad. The guy has so much talent but never even came close to utilizing it. And no, he wasn't a bright spot. Delmas, Avril(to a lesser extent) and Levy were the only ones who've looked like legitimate, above average NFLers the last few years.
I've heard people say Ernie Sims has played very poorly and is considered a huge bust by the Lions FO and fans, which could explain the low value he commanded in return.
What about the Broncos? Is a 5th and a 7th good value for Sheffler? Supposedly they were looking for 3rd or high 4th originally. I think the Lions did OK. They didn't want Sims, and got decent pass catching TE. Philly could get alot out of Sims if Jim Johnson was still around to run that Defense. Now, who knows?
Why? The bad film the guy has is available to the other 31 GMs. A 5th is the going rate this offseason and that's exactly what they got.
Sims is in his contract year and its unlikely that he would want to sign with the Lions so its trade him now or get nothing next year and the Lions seem to prefer DeAndre Levy over Sims in any event, also they seem to be more interested in supporting Stafford than anything else at this point, which is the right move as he basically is their franchise. Good trade for Eagles. OK trade for Lions Bad trade for Broncos
The Lions FO and their fans all consider him a bust, not the best defensive player. I haven't seen him play much, so I don't know.
