Great Mock and i know you were expecting a comment like this but Joseph is a great prospect and is going to be great with the right coaching but skipping Odrick? Theres no way that happens, i only see Joseph as a prospect the Jets draft if either trade down to a pick 40 or under or Odrick is taken before we select at 29. Everything else looks solid to me.
Always good to see your mocks as I always see some unique picks that most don't have... I'd be surprised if Seattle took a QB since they traded a bit for Charlie Whitehurst.. If they didn't see him as the future QB, they probably wouldn't have given up the picks for him and signed him to a solid contract. Interesting choice to Pittsburgh.. It makes sense actually since Holmes is now a Jet beer, Hines Ward is entering his 13th season and Limas Sweed is a bust. I see them looking for defense or offensive line help, but this pick makes plenty of sense. (Houston picks at 20 and Atlanta at 19) I think San Diego needs a more-between-the-tackles back than Best since they already have Darren Sproles. A guy like Matthews or Montario Hardesty would be a better fit IMO. Is Best a better between-the-tackles runner than I give him credit for? I'd be very happy with Linval Joseph at 29, but I think San Diego opts for him EDIT: I'm surprised Odrick got to 31! I've heard him as a possible top 10 pick a la Tyson Jackson last year... But if he got that far that'd be incredible, even though I'm starting to see Linval Joseph as a more versatile prospect than Odrick and thus a great pick if both are there at 29. I think the Chargers would take Joseph or Odrick though.. Good read overall
I can't see the Jets taking Joseph over Odrick. Odrick more than likely won't make it past Baltimore at 25. I don't think the Ravens will go after an offensive lineman early. They have a ton of money invested into that offensive line. They need help on defense. Overall this is a really good mock.
I don't think that SF will go CB and S with their first 2 picks when there are other needs that need to be taken care of. I do believe they will go one or the other but not both. And like Mr.E said in the other thread I just can't see Odrick falling that far and definitely not past us.
San Fran's most pressing need is probably in the secondary where they need help at both CB and S. The only other real pressing need would be offensive line help at either RT or OG... Plus, Earl Thomas and Joe Haden are both BPAs where they are taken IMO. If they get the chance to get those two guys, I don't there's ANY question they will. That would make for an incredibly talented, young secondary.
Thanks E, much appreciated. I have to be honest, I'm not a big fan of Odrick's ... I Just have a bad feeling about him, not that he's gonna bust or anything like that, I even think he will start in this league, but my gut says he'll never be much more than JAG (Just Another Guy), and frankly I'm looking for more than JAG from my first round pick ... I want someone who has a chance to be a dominator.
I like it. Jabba has always been a pretty accurate draftnik, and I haven't had as much time as usual to follow this kind of thing this year, so I'll take his word for it. What I've heard about Joseph I've liked, and he's definitely a guy I'd target. -X-
Not really, PA Sorry I didn't answer last nite, but it was late and I could barely keep my eyes open. He can run between the tackles, he's not strictly a scatback like Sproles, but there's no doubt he's at his best in space. Having said that, he is possibly the fastest player in this draft, can clock in the 4.2's on a fast track, and that kind of speed does not grow on trees ... so while he's not an ideal fit for SD who I'm sure would prefer Ryan Mathews, I think they make an exception for Best and draft him for WHAT HE IS (which is pretty darn special) rather than pass for WHAT HE ISN'T Or as the Rolling Stones once said ... "You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometime you just might find, you get what you need" Then maybe later in the draft they can add a big SY/GL type power back for balance
Tennesee let Mawae go because they have a guy they're going to plug in at center and may wind up bringing him back anyway. Can't seem them going center in the first round. The Giants already have a guy in Kiuwanuka that has a similar skill set to Graham. With a patchwork offensive line and Kearny retiring I think one of Seattle's picks will be a lineman on either side of the ball.
I could see Jabba's point here. They drafted Kiwanuka when they already had guys with similar skillsets, and I think they'd like to get more production out of the pass rush. Also remember, Osi has not endeared himself to the coaching staff and hasn't looked the same since Brick snapped his leg. Have to agree on Seattle- They just made that trade for Whitehurst, which is a lot to give up for a guy with no career starts, and I think they're trying to catch Hasselbeck in a bottle with him. Spiller is a solid pick but I think they'll address the offensive line at some point too. -X-
If you like PJ's sense of humor I'm gonna recommend a good book TRUE BELIEVERS (the tragic inner life of sports fans) By Joe Queenan Funniest book EVER I kid you not and I caution you not to read it in public, because you'll laugh so hard people will think you are crazy. Same sense of humor PJ uses .. that same Irish wit .. only this book was written specifically with Jet fans in mind, fans of teams that never win, and you will identify with so many of the observations and see the side-splitting insanity of it all.
u got it all wrong , dont u guys know that the jets are gonna trade their 1st and 2nd and a couple players away to move up and get Eric Berry or Earl Thomas, use ur heads, rex ryan wants an Ed Reed type safety in his system
