This is kind of a spin-off from the Reggie Bush wearing #5 discussion. Wikipedia says: Keyshawn Johnson started the trend when he wore number 19 in 1996 because the New York Jets had ran out of numbers in the 80s. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL_Number_System So, who were the 10 who wore numbers in the 80s in camp and got numbers before Keyshawn? Here's the eight WRs and TEs on the 1996 roster excluding Keyshawn. Henry Bailey Wayne Chrebet 80 Jeff Graham 81 Webster Slaughter Alex Van Dyke 86 Fred Baxter 84 Kyle Brady 88 Tyrone Davis
I came up wih same ones as Irv: 80 Wayne Chrebet 81 Jeff Graham 82 ? 83 Tyrone Davis 84 Fred Baxter 85 Henry Bailey 86 Alex Van Dyke 87 Webster Slaughter 88 Kyle Brady 89 ? Other wide recievers: Rico Smith - was cut before season started Phillip Riley - I think he was signed after the season started If anyone can think of the other two let us know
Alan Allen, Scott Garlick... What about Ryan Yarborough and Orlando Parker? Van Dyke!!!! What a bad #2 pick.
Ugh, especially after taking Keyshawn #1. I remember clearly saying WTF. Lawyer Milloy and Brackens went soon after.....
Last year, Matt Dominguez wore a small number as well. The rules for numbers is different in TC than they are for the season since teams will have all those extra players the first pre-season games before cuts. Once the season begins, they would have needed to change the number.
Yarborough did not play in 1996. He was traded to Green Bay on 7/26/96. He was either injured or didn't make the roster. He played with the Ravens in 1997.
