Don't disagree with anything you said here at all, and if any of those things happen then we have gotten better. Having said that however, last time I looked a kicker was a part of the team as well, and is often called on to win, or lose, a game in the NFL - especially in the post season. This is where I think the concern lies, I think most don't see Folk as an upgrade at that position, they see him as a big question mark.
But you have to weigh the move against the overall effect on the team. If we lose Feely and gain Sharper has the team improved? Even if Folk is just passable as our kicker? It's hard to argue that our kicker would have more of an effect on the outcome of our games than our safety. Yes, once in a while a kicker is called upon to win a game. However, with a defensive backfield that includes Revis, Cromartie, Sharper and Leonhard, chances are, we're not going to need our kicker to win that many games. You're talking about the difference between a player who plays less than a handful of the game's snaps versus someone who plays at least a third. Whether Folk is an "upgrade" "step back" or "similar" is completely irrelevant. Neither he nor Feely play defense. ------------ FTR: I'm just using Sharper's name as an example. I don't think the Jets are interested in Sharper, truth be told. I see Pool as our starter next year, and we'll be grabbing someone in the draft to learn. I don't know who the Jets are eyeing by letting Feely go, but I am certain it's someone who can make an impact during plays where there is a QB on the field at the time. One not named Kellen Clemens.
I can read well enough to see that you're a jackass. Feely's kicks weren't as costly as Kaeding's and not the difference in the game. I doubt that is why they won't resign him, it's about money, same as TJ. In TJ's case there were a lot of good RBs out there and they got probably the best one for less money. With kickers it's a crapshoot and by the time you realize you got one who can't handle pressure your season is over. Yes, Feely missed a couple in Indy, but he'd proven enough times before that he can kick under pressure.
BAHAHAHAHAHA! ...cool it, Paco. Feely's a fucking kicker. He doesn't make that much money. It's not about money with him. Feely's first miss gave the Colts a short field and you can't do that against Peyton Manning. We were winning when he missed...it gave Indy the momentum. They scored and never looked back. Just because those misses were in crunch time doesn't mean they weren't costly.
Is this going to have to end up at Applebee's? I've been meaning to go get the chicken there anyway. It's about money with everybody, everywhere, all the time. And I didn't say his miss at Indy didn't hurt us, I said it didn't cost us the game and it didn't. Doug Brien cost us the game, Feely didn't. You can give Manning the ball at his own 10, it doesn't matter in that building. That's why Belichick went for 4th and 2 against them.
Weatherford ripped an IV out of his arm and tore off the ECG equipment and tried to force his way out of the training room and onto the field but the team medics refused to let him go ... he was not allowed to play because the NFL has baseline heart rate targets and his wasn't responding. It wasn't a judgment call. He was not allowed to play per NFL rules.
