This team is not ready to contend for a SB title. Not in 2010. 2011? There's a good chance. A division title is for the taking. There are still teams ahead of the Jets in terms of overall stature. The Jets are nearly there. Couple of more pieces and they'll be ready to go for the big time. After that, the Jets need to make sure they keep replenishing the roster with talent. The time for depth is at hand.
Gonna have to agree with NDmick here unfortunately. We're lacking depth at key positions, and we have a sophomore QB. Yes yes, i know that Sanchez showed what a player he will eventually become during the playoffs, but i don't expect him to maintain that level for 16 games.
We could easily win it if this defense continues to improve as it should. Rex is bringing in more of his kind of player and Mark is only getting better. There is no reason to think that in both their rookie seasons they got us to the AFC champ game that in the subsequent year/years we can't go further. Roethlisberger did it with a very similar team, so can Sanchez.
The offense is young so they have nowhere to go but up as the defense under Rex Ryan stays dominant. I love it! :jets:
2011? What about the 2010 season? I think it's way too early to even attempt to do this however
I like a Packers Jets superbowl. I remember looking at odds at the beginning of the playoffs last year, and I believe Jets vs Packers superbowl was going off at something like 250 to 1. I was so tempted to put 50 bucks on that, glad I didn't now though. In fact, I think Jets were at 50-1 to win the superbowl just before the playoffs started. Now they're 15-1 before the 2010 season even begins. I think if the Packers can improve their offensive line they become a real threat in the NFC. If Sanchez continues his progression from the playoffs last year and the Jets secondary is even better than last year as we're all crossing our fingers for, I believe the Jets become a serious contender for a SB this year.
I still call them the 2009 playoffs, since they were the end of the 2009 season. It's annoying to change it.
all i know is the jets getting to the big one is going down this year. as far as being first overall going into the postseason, thats a bit bold but i like it regardless.
You really don't think this years team is ready to contend for a title?? Let's see - Arguably the best defense in the league last year, and all we really lost is Kerry Rhodes (Sheppard and Strickland shouldn't be big losses) while adding Cromartie, a healthy Jenkins, and most likely some talent in the draft. A 2nd year Quarterback who we all saw improve last year as well as get some valuable playoff experience. Not only that, but he's had more time to develop chemistry with his #1 receiver. One of the league's best rushing attacks last year, and Greene should only be improved plus we're getting Leon back (crossing my fingers he still has some explosiveness). We added a good 3rd down / receiving back with LT, and while the Jury is still out on how effective he'll be I can see him doing some things behind this line. On top of all that, we have plenty of great young players across the board who should only be more developed and have another years experience in Rex Ryan's system. After coming so close to the SB last year, this team is going to be hungry and motivated. I wouldn't call the Jets favorites to win it all this year, but I have no doubt in my mind they are ready to contend for one.
If the Jets don't win it this year or in 2011, then we'll be in another 40 year drought I'm afraid. I put all my chips on this year.
