Does it have to be an active player? I'm going to break the mold here and pick an oldie who I think Bryan Cox would adore, even though he's on offense (they can have tea and crumpets together). Conrad Dobler, a decent guard whose reputation for dirty ball exceeded his skills, add more depth to our O-Line. I think he was originally with the Rams, but I mostly remember him as a Cardinal. How is that dirtbag was never a Raider?! We need a guy like that, some sewer filth we can be proud of. I remember as a kid seeing him double back on a downed guy and step on his head. Merlin Olsen hated his guts. "Every Monday Night game would feature Cosell laughing through some tale of Dobler setting fire to a school bus full of children. Every NFL pre-game show would have some sort of funny bit on how Dobler picked a fight with an invalid. Every magazine and newspaper would run some goofy story on Dobler's satanic rituals. And along came the advertising companies! Conrad, shill these lawn jarts by impaling a kitten with them! Conrad, bust the Kool-Aid man into a bazillion pieces! Conrad, call Fonzie a wuss! Conrad! Conrad! Conrad! Ahh, the 70's! A biting, kicking, punching, gouging, cheating, cheap-shot artist..." HAH! EDIT: Disclaimer: I actually hold dirty ball in very low esteem, but c'mon...
Ladies stop highjacking the thread. Let's get back to the question at hand, you can resume your catfight elsewhere.
Ed Reed...that guy would make our defence sooo much better. He would bail out Barrett everytime he gets beat, man he pisses me off (Barrett) he gotta go
I'm really starting to think LT is one of the most overrated players. Everyone all over him. He hasn't produced big numbers since 2003. He also has really underperformed based on his talents. Granted his underperformance in still better than a lot of other players good, but its still weak for himself. He's great in the redzone, where he is most shifty and fast, but this guy isn't the face of the Chargers as much as everyone wants to make him. Brees and Gates became the face, he's just like a not-so-secret weapon.
LaDanian. He's the most explosive player in football, and he has showed he can still do anything with an average OLine like he did in previous seasons... Just a playmaker, and a threat to score every touch.
Huh what? In 03' 18 total TDs 2004 he had 1335 yards and 21 total TDs... 2005 he had 1462 and 24 TDs You're trying to tell me those years aren't producing big? What? Gates burst onto the scene in 2004...So even without Gates, LT put up GREAT numbers in 01,02, and 03...He CARRIED Brees who finally didn't break out until 2004. Tomlinson had carried that team since his rookie year since he's ALL they had, no other playmakers... And you have the nerve to label him overrated?
laff if ya wanna, Steinbrenner in the front office! We'd have a stadium and several SB's to our name!
I agree. I am pretty sure that LT has never led the league in rushing or in touchdowns. As far as yards per carry, he has been very mediocre, maybe even bad, except for 2003. He is a great player, no doubt, but is not deserving of all the love that people give him. I also agree with Mexican Buc's previous post about Michael Vick. Sure, he has his deficiencies, but people make him out to be the worst QB in the league, when he has accomplished a lot in his short career. It seems to be the fad to be in love with LT and hate on Vick. To answer the original question, I think I'd have to agree with Winston and go with a healthy Carson Palmer.
Youre kidding right? You judge greatness based solely on numbers? How bout the fact that he draws in 8 men in the box like clockwork? If Curtis Martin last year put up numbers like LT, we'd be singing his praise and slurping him. Also LT put up more TDs in 2004 and 2005 than he(LT) did in 2003. Another thing, you ever think maybe his overall stats dipped because of the emergence of Gates and Brees? From 2001 to 2003, he was San Diego's only option. He had great numbers because he was SD's best running back and wide receiver. in 2004 Gates and Brees emerged and the ball was spread out. So what hes had a 3.9 ypc year. Curtis Martin for his career has 4.0 ypc, a whole .1 more than LT. LT is thee most dangerous RB in the league. Hes shown he can deliver by himself and with others. He had 3 passing TDs on only 4 attempts. Teams actually had to keep that in mind when defending him last year. And finally, i think only 1 rb has had more tds than him in his "down years", Shaun Alexander, and thats because of his record breaking year last year. Alexander had 28 tds last year, LT had 23. Year before that, Alexander had 20, LT 18. Not bad for "down years."
After thinking about i'd probably take Brady or LT I dont really like Tom Brady but he is a proven winner LT is the best player in the league, thats all that needs to said.
In order: Tomlinson Alexander Palmer Brady I don't think LT is overrated. If anything, I think he is still underrated. He is the most complete player in the game. He is a total offensive weapon. Alexander is the best pure RB in football, hands down. Palmer (healthy) is a total monster. He easily upgrades your offense the second he steps on the field. Brady playing here would keep him off the Pats roster. He isn't my favorite QB in the league. I like Peyton Manning, Brees, Palmer, Big Ben, and Delhomme more, but there is no denying that without Brady, the Pats just aren't as scary. (But then again, Boston without Damon isn't rolling over and dying, so maybe this theory doesn't work so well...)
Tiki Barber has been the most explossive back in football for several years now. If he wasn't known as a fumbler, he would be considered the best back in the league right now. James has been consistently the best back in football since he came into the league.
OK so you allege I posted misinformation like Dino did time after time with Herm so go to the archives & find the proof or say you are sorry
What is the misinformation Dino posted? A) I'd like to see if it truly was misinformation and B) If it is misinformation, I'm currently in the mood to read moronic statements.
Larry Johnson. They guy ran for 1750 yards and he only started 9 games. If Herm keeps that O in tact and lets the line do what they have to, then Johnson has a realistic shot of pushing 2000 yards this year. His explosiveness is very underrated because he is such a big physical back. He can take 30 carries a game no problem. He punishes Defenses and can outrun them. I think this is where he is a better fit for us then LT. LJ played in the cold at PSU and is used to playing in frigid conditions against very physical teams in the Big Ten. He is better suited to take the pounding at the Meadowlands, in NE and in Buffalo in Novemeber and December than LT is. If the Jets needed one guy, I'd go with Larry Johnson based on our needs. I think either Chad or Ramsey could have a very good season if they were handing the ball off to LJ.
