The Jets need another QB incase Sanchez doesn't pan out. We also need another #1 CB incase Revis doesn't pan out. We need another center incase Mangold doesn't pan out... You don't bring in players to replace a young pro bowl caliber player just on the basis of 'incase he doesn't pan out'. I would be super pissed if we picked up a WR in the first. I'd rather send that first to Denver, but I would rather draft a DL with it. WR is not even close to being a first round need.
Wallac Wright? The guy who couldn't become anything more than a STer? ST come dime a dozen. And the reason they remain on teams rosters is to develop them for the future and use them on offense or defense. Wright will never be a WR. Clowney has ton of potential and he should contribute more this year.
After having to sit out for his pro day, I doubt the Jets will have to pray for him to fall as much as they would Tate or Bryant. But I agree. If Thomas is there, take him.
Braylon hasn't been a pro bowl calibre player for 2 years. He's not under a long term contract. There are still questions about his hands and his commitment to the team(although agreeing to participate in team workouts is a big step toward turning that one around). There is no guarantee that he is going to be back in 2011, nor is there any guarantee that the Jets should want him back in 2011. Mangold and Revis are already pro bowlers, the only questions surrounding them are whether or not the Jets can find the money to pay both of them. Sanchez is already under contract and just came off a rookie season. Edwards has been in the league for 2005. If there are still questions about his hands and concentration after 5 years, it is a major concern. Yea, a lot of people are saying that. Just like a lot of people said that they would be pissed if the Jets drafted a CB in the first round of 2008 and constantly argued against picking McKelvin. The Jets wound up picking Gholston and have since spent a 2009 fourth round pick, a 2010 5th round pick, and a 2011 3rd round pick which can become a 2011 2nd round pick on Sheppard and Cromartie...and we still have yet to find a pass rushing threat opposite Pace. WR is a smart pick if the right player is there. Tate, Bryant, or Thomas(Happy, MrE?) would be the right player at 29. You're kidding yourself if you think the Broncos will give up Marshall for only a low first round pick. Which DL? If Cody falls to 29 then yes, take him over a WR. I'm not saying WR should be the only target in the first, nor did I didn't even say the 1st round should be the only option for WR. All I said was if the BPA in the first and the Jets cannot trade down, then they should draft a WR.
It's not an unheard of! Its happened several times before (Whitehurst this season, Hasselbeck, Grbec, I know that there are more, just haven't spent the time to research), the key is the QB has to be successful when given the opportunities (Preseason), and your starting QB has to be good enough to provide the reason that the other QB has not been given the chance to start. and the last thing is you have to have a trade partner who is in needs a franchise QB and they do not feel that the answer is the draft. If Ainge can continue to impress during preseason and other opportunities, Sanchez turns out to be the QB most of us think that he will and find the right franchize, I don't see it being out of the qtestion... :shit:
Look at the draft day trade wih the Browns... on top of everything they wanted for the #5 pick they also wanted our 5th rounder and in the end they accepted Ratliff instead... it's always good to have a talented young QB on the team. That said... if this season we keep 4 QBs AGAIN I'll be pissed...
According to the draft pick chart, Whitehurst was worth 200 points and Ratliff was worth 33.5 points. Even if it is just a rough guide, that plus $10million is a lot for a guy who couldn't beat out Billy Voleck.
Don't forget about Woodhead in the backfield. Dude's good for 200 yards a game until the season actually starts.
