I think what it comes down to is if Jones came back, it would stunt Greene's development and take away carries from him. There is no way Jones would just accept a 10 touch per game deal.. plus he's not a good pass catcher, so it would be all carries. The Jets obviously think Greene is a better, more explosive player. They want him to take over the lead dog role.

LT is so much more versatile. He's going to be used in a variety of ways. LT is not replacing Jones. Jones is being replaced by Greene getting a major increase in carries, and LT getting what's left over and doing a few different things on the field.

Anybody writing articles like the one quoted by the OP are just being stupid. They have no idea how Jones will run behind that inferior line in KC (we know how he was here before the Jets upgraded theirs) or how Tomlinson will run behind a vastly improved OL that the Jets have.

Just silly internet columnists trying to get face time.

The Jets swapped two washed up guys ........ I don't see this hurting much if at all. It's not like the Jets traded Revis for present day Deion..........

I'll lay down a shiny silver dollar that Alan Faneca will get Sanchez sacked 5 times by himself.

This should be an over/under. I'm taking over. Well over. He and Woody are going to be exposed this season. I'm not going to spout the Jones man love but one of the problems he had was the holes closing on him before he could get to them, and we loved to run right behind Faneca...

Agreed. Its over. He's gone. Time will tell if the Jets made the right choice. Both players (Jones and LT) bring a different dimension to the Jets offense.

It's really hard to tell who will have a better season next year: LT or TJ. True, TJ played great during regular season, but he sucked in play-offs. And LT is actually younger and overall a better talent. The bottom line is that TJ was due 6 mil next year, and he refused to renegotiate. LT took 2.6 mil next year, and it really is debatable who has more left in the tank. I will take LT and 3.4 million.

LT not only isnt the same player but he wouldnt take a cut in salary is why he is gone. In reality he might have been let go anyways if he had taken a cut but he refused.
And comparing him being let go to Brees is a joke. Brees wasnt near the end of his career but he was in the last year of his contract and suffered a torn labrum in his shoulder in the last game of the season. Also had a partial rotator cuff tear. Had nothing to do with him being near the end of his career and we had Rivers waiting in the wings so it wasnt a tough choice, and they still offfered him a deal but it was filled with incentives.

LT is not done, but he wont ever be what he used to be.....great OL or not. He will better but how can he not improve from the 3.3 YPC he had? His biggest loss is his cutting ability. He dont have that like he used to but i can see him getting 4.0 YPC. I hope he plays well, i really do but wouldnt suprise me if he is only mediocre. He has had good OL's before and he has had crappy ones too. His rookie year our OL was awful and he still got over 1,200 yards.
That shows you how much he has declined with last years performance with a OL that was better than that one. However, i hope he has a solid season because i want him to add to his totals.

Capped or upcapped the only way T.J. was getting paid this year is if we rode his back to a superbowl win.

    BACKUP POSITION?
Everybody knows that in todays NFL teams have 2 starting RB's not one. So you're telling me that i'm pissing and moaning about a BACK UP when SG hasn't played a full season and he already missed time and LW is a big ? due to his recovery.
Given this i'd say that the BACK UP position you speak of as not being that important in all actuality is VERY IMPORTANT.

Yes, and you will piss and whine until they address these positions, and then you will piss and whine some more until the Jets lead the league in rushing for the second straight season.

And then you will find something else to piss and whine about.

While the OL for the SDC was better this year then in years past, they just weren't good at all in getting holes for LT. He can't cut like he used to, that's for sure, but My fat ass could run through some of the holes that our O-line opened up for TJ last year.

The big reason that we picked up LT is because a veteran presence was wanted/needed to spell Greene every so often, so he doesn't kill himself with the way he just trucks defenders. Also, given Leon's injury, he's a big ?. I'm not expecting Tomlinson to be amazing at all, but if he has 4.0 ypc, color me happy with his production.
