A) Because they wanted him here as the backup, which is why they slapped a tender on him.... b) because what's availible to take his place isn't an upgrade. You may not think he's that good, but Clemens isn't stupid either, is experienced, and can be depended on to come in, play smart, manage a game and not LOSE it for you. That is EXACTLY what you want a backup to do. c) Because, in spite of what half of the fans here think, Ainge isn't even close to being ready to be a #2 - and Rex and Shotty both know that.
I disagree with you ANdy M.....if Clemens can be our # 2, so could ainge, he looked good last pre-season, all he will do is hand off all day anyway....time to let the duck go...
some may disagree, but imo this is exactly why he's still here. its a backup... do people expect to have 2 awesome QBs? that's not as much a luxury as people think.
