Even if one of our FAs sign elsewhere, don't they have to get signed to equal/more than what we would pay our FA pickup?

Do we have any FAs that would make more than Sharper would command?

Yes, thats why it would take a couple of our UFA's to sign elsewhere, in order to have enough cash to sign him... not that any of the UFA's of the Jets will comand anything more than back up contracts

In my other post I forgot about Murrell and Wright as UFA so we can possibly pick up some back ups off them as noted by others.

It would be interesting to see what they got but haven't seen it anywhere yet.

One things for sure, this is a pretty exciting offseason!
I'll be even more excited when we start adding more depth.

Right now the thought of Revis, Cromartie,Leonard,Sharper,Ighedibo(?),and Smith sounds pretty nice.
All we'd need is 2 more corners for depth and we'd be set!

I gotta disagree this has been boring compared to past years the final four signing rules sucks. I wonder who we would have gone after if we weren't handcuffed by it.

I just read that a final four team CAN sign a UFA from another Final Four team? Anyone know if this is true?

I'm really not sure we needed to make such a big splash in FA this year anyway.
I'm thinking that we can get some nice value from some of the guys who've been released or are going to be to fill some much needed depth.
They are saying this will be the year of the trade and we all know that doesn't happen much in the NFL, so for that reason alone i think it's pretty exciting.
I think the rule is forcing us to concentrate more on locking up our own important future FA's and forcing us more into building through the draft.

I wouldnt hate it if they signed him to a 1-2year deal. I would absolutely love it if they could trade up and select Eric Berry, but there's no chance of that happening :sad:

We lost Wright and Murrell whose combined contracts will probably be around $1 million, maybe a little more. We still have Feely and Douglass out there who could sign giving us flexibility to sign Sharper. Sharper will have to be patient if he really wants to play for the Jets.

That would be a great temporary replacement for Rhodes and give us more flexibility in the draft.

Feely could go for 1-2million. With Wright, Murrell, and Feely gone that could give us about 2million to play with.

I am pretty sure it is 1 for 1 on the replacement not the total contract amounts so would have to hope Feely gets a nice contract offer or that Carolina way overpaid for Wright.

But if anyone can decipher this part of Article XXI, I am wondering if this means anyone that does not sign with another team by July 15 could be signed by anyone including final 8 teams.

I don't see it helping us get Sharper but could help us in picking up some role players.

I think its per person not total. So if we loose 5 guys for a total of 7 million dollars we can only sign 5 guys for 7 million not 1 for 7.

Not 100% sure on this though

Shit, I didn't catch the part about it being 1 for 1. What the hell is the purpose of that?

It's 1 for 1 and based on first year salaries.

How is this thread still going? We have no shot at picking him up unless he enters TC without a team.

He would really have to take a pay cut to play here, I think. Even if we were able to get enough money together to pay for him the Saints would probably match. I think signing him would be a great move, though we'd still need insurance/long-term replacement for him.
