Oh no I definitely dont think Cromartie is a good idea for special teams if he plays well and proves to be a good #2 corner. But IF he doesnt return to form and we gave up a draft pick for him anyway. Might as well use him as a #3 corner and special teams.

He's going to have the whole year to make it as the #2 guy. He would have to play a lot worse than he did in SD to actually get demoted during the regular season, and after that his contract is up. I don't think he actually sees any time as the #3.

If Aundre Allison is healthy I'd bet that he would be given a chance to battle for the jobs, but that's if he's still got his speed.

I strongly disagree with the premise of the thread. Cotchery averaged better than 10 yards per punt return last season, eclipsing the league average. If you want to find someone else because you don't want a starting wide receiver risking injury, that's one thing. But the notion that Cotchery wasn't a quality punt returner is simply false.

Cotchery is also a starting WR who we need fresh and healthy to drive and score. He is also Sanchez's security blanket right now. No point in tiring him out or leaving him open for injuries.

Just an extra thought, if the Jets do bring in a slot receiver, chances are he's going to be a smaller guy with some speed. If it's someone like CMU's Antonio Brown, they also have good value as a return man.

How does Freddy Barnes look as a PR?

He was BG's punt returner last season, and I'd imagine he would be pretty much the same kind of returner that Cotch and Leonhard were. Just a reliable guy whose more likely to take a fair catch or pick up a couple yards consistently than ever break one. He doesn't have that kind of burst some others do.

Guys off the top of my head (through researching for the GM Mock) that would be good fits: Brown, SMU's Emmanuel Sanders, Andre Roberts from Citadel, and Michigan State's Blair White.

what happened to Justin Miller? he was great his first year with the Jets, and i know he got injured and a year went by but when the jets resigned him i thought it could be a really good pickup.. towards the end of the playoffs i was begging for him to play nickel.. hopefully someone coulda kept up with the Colts speed

The Jets cut him about 3 weeks later for missing meetings and tweeting about his partying. As a punt returner he was absolutely terrible his whole career, same at corner. He only had any talent as a kick returner.

I know that some of you will not like this... but I honestly didnt mind, having cotch doing the punt returning, I know that he will never take it to the house, but he also will never drop the ball and get us five to ten. To me there is nothing more disheartening to a team then muffing the catch and giving the ball right back to the team.

Also punt returns touchdowns happen so rarely, that I would much rather have someone back there that wont turn it over. So im happy with either cotch or jim doing it.

Adding commas to your sentence doesn't make it grammatically correct...

That being said, I'm sure we could find someone with excellent hands that isn't our #2 receiver so we don't have to risk injury.
