Since this is such a deep draft and we are so close to the Super Bowl, I would be in favor of for one year, doing what George Allen used to do when he was the head coach of the Redskins.

Trade next years number 1 for a 2 and 5 this year

Trade next years number 2 for a 3 and 6 this year

Trade next years number 4 for a 5 and 6 this year

Think about, if the players in the draft this year are as good everyone says, we could build a nice team that is ready to win now and also make it younger with solid players a year quicker by obtaining these six additional picks.

You know there's a draft forum, right?

Trading next year's picks wouldn't be smart unless a can't miss player like Eric Berry was in our reach.

2011's draft is also going to be ridiculously loaded, especially with skill position players.

No, who knows next year there may be a rookie wage scale and next years picks may become that much more valuable.

Yeah I don't like gambling next years draft picks at all. You never know what value they will be until it comes up. Maybe something horrible happens and we need to trade them that much more. I am against this.

I'm going to go with "pass" on this one. Especially because we might not have that 2nd round pick to trade, but more especially because missing out on next year's draft would be fucking terrible.

Really what he did was trade picks for veteran players. Dave Butz, Richie Petitbon, Speedy Duncan, Ron McDole, Clifton McNeil, and Billy Kilmer were some of the key players Allen acquired by dealing away draft picks.

    Allen's 7 drafts with Washington-
    1971- traded away 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th, and 17th round choices
    1972- traded away 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th round choices
1973- traded away 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 11th round choices (note: Washington originally had two picks each in the 5th and 8th rounds; in each of those rounds they kept one of the picks)
1974- traded away 11 choices, including 8 in the first 8 rounds
1975- traded away 9 of first 12 choices
1976- traded away first 5 picks
1977- traded away 9 of first 11 choices

How come other contenders don't do this? Like, you know, Colts.

Quite possibly because this is one of the most retarded stuff anyone at FO can possibly come up with?

I mean there is logic to his maddness. But id only do it if someone we really want is on the clock. No reason to do it in advance of the draft, or else you might end up having to pick a player you dont need.

Lets say we actually did what you suggest. Lets go one step further and say that all of our picks pan out. How do you figure we'll retain them all when their contracts run out? I know you are doing this with a short-term mindset but it could screw things up big time in the long run.

Lets just trade our 2011 first and second round pick for a 2010 first round pick

..then next year we can trade a 2012 first and second and 2013 second for a 2011 first

then in 2012 we can trade a 2013 first and second and 2014 first round pick for a high 2011 first round pick

    Make it happen Tanny

this year's draft is heavy due entirely to all the underclassmen coming out (in fear of a lock out next year).

essentially, we ALREADY HAVE next year's draft class co-mingled with this years draft, so trading (some of) next year's picks for this year may not be a bad idea.

    in fact, it's brilliant.

2011's potential wideout class looks like it will be one of the best ever:

AJ Green (UGA), Mike Floyd (Notre Dame), Julio Jones (Bama), Jonathan Baldwin (Pitt), DeVier Posey (Ohio State), DeAndre Brown (Southern Miss), Aldarius Johnson (Miami), and Jeff Fuller (Texas A&M)

I'm not going to be so quick to kick your scenario aside, but if we trade the entire 2011 draft away to pick up players in this year's draft, we will basically be paying top dollar for the players in this year's draft and missing out on what will likely be the first draft with a rookie salary scale. That is asking for cap hell under the next CBA.

It's a nice thought, but I don't think the Jets would be able to afford it.

    :grin::metal::grin:

If we can get Baldwin and/or Romeus on this team next year, I might just shoot a load through my living room wall.
