I know what you mean. When was the last time Cal produced a HB who consistently succeeded in the NFL?
Yeah it's unfair to think like that, but it definitely has an affect on my opinion of him. The durability concerns do as well...
It's not really as unfair as you'd think. All of these backs are coming from a system in which they have produced at a high level in college. They make it to the NFL and all of a sudden they became almost useless. Something in the way that Tedford is teaching them to play does not translate well with the NFL. Cal QBs(and Tedford QBs in general) have had the same problems, with the exception of Aaron Rodgers. As for Best's injury concerns, I wouldn't hold too much against him there. How often is he going to be 8-12 feet in the air?
after his performance today, and the tj news, im officially on the draft ben tate bandwagon
Looks like a faster, lighter version of Shonn Greene. What's better than one tank in your backfield? Two tanks in your backfield!
Toby Gerhart just doesn't offer as much value or versatility as the other two. I'd take him on the Jets over the other Best and McCluster, but I can't rank him higher on an overall board. Darius Marshall was recently arrested, and he has a horrible frame. He was a very productive back at Marshall. I think he'll get selected in the 6th or 7th round. Montario Hardesty is a hell of a back. He was one of the best backs in the SEC this season. He's suffered a few injuries in the past, but he's got great size at 225. I think he'll be an early third rounder. Toby Gerhart was very impressive today. By Dixon, do you mean Anthony Dixon out of Mississippi State or Andre Dixon out of UCONN? There isn't a Dixon at the combine from Penn State. Both players would be solid picks in the middle of the third or early fourth
I meant the kid from UCONN Yeah I looked at Marshall measurables and he is pretty small at 5'10 for 190. I guess someone will give him a shot in the late late rounds since to me he looked competent out there. I actually wouldn't be surprised seeing Hardesty go into the late 2nd to a team like the Chargers (he's one of the few backs who's good at catching too)... but he's def going before the middle of the 3rd. Mathews looked VERY solid out there and cemented his position as the n°2 back...
For you guys talking about Andre Dixon from UConn, I made this thread the other day...apparently the Jets met with him. http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=54675
Armanti Edwards is just a great football player. At 5'11, he's got no shot at playing quarterback at the next level, but he'll be a damn good value pick as a developmental wideout.
HAHAHA...holy shit. Well, Radio Shack commercials suck just as much as Deal or No Deal and Bobby's World.
Tomorrow is going to be interesting. Everyone will get a much closer look at this incredibly deep 3-4 defender class.
Did Ryan Matthews and Jonathan Dwyer run their 40's? If so, can someone please post their times Thanks in advance
I've watched a lot of Auburn this year and I love how Tate runs the ball. He just looks like an NFL running back. Now he's going to shoot up draftboards after his combine performance...I've had him #3-4 in RBs the past month or so.
