Again, you failed to understand a simple AGE comparison. Here it is again in more clear words for you: Just like Lowery at 25 isn't worth a 1st (obvious reasons!), Aso at 29 isn't exactly worth a 4th either (Again, for obvious reasons). If I said Bailey isn't worth a 1st at 25 yrs old, I would be insane, hence I used Lowery, a nickel back, to make my point...PLEASE CAN WE GET OVER THIS NOW??? You don't seem to understand the point anyways.

Its an example, Mr. I know it all. Yet again, you dodge a fucking question and 'speak' out of your ass. A lot of the examples aren't realistic. You want realistic examples, but base your opinions on assumptions.

Maybe here when I said we can trade Rhodes for a pick? Soon you'll contradict yourself again.

Look at our depth, we have none. Greene went down in the AFCC and our running game stalled completely. 3/5 of our starters on the OLine will be at least 30 next season. All 3 of our projected starters on the DLine are going to be 31 at least, and if Jenkins goes down we have a 31 year old backup in Pouha that we have to move over from DE. If we keep giving up multiple draft picks for one player, the team is going to be in depth trouble and financial trouble. Also, Tannebaum has not given up a first round pick for a single player outside of trading up in the draft. Jenkins was a 3rd and 5th. Edwards was a 3rd, a 5th, and two depth players. We need to restock our backups.

You can only work on your depth once you have your starters. Are we selling the farm for Aso with a first rounder? No. A first rounder and a conditional pick in 2011? No.

Cato, Im done debating with you on this matter. I don't hate people pulling trades out of their ass. No matter how realistic or unrealistic our trade proposals are, they have no affect on the team. We, at TGG, aren't the GM of the Jets. However, I hate people speaking (or posting?) out of their ass.

Asomugha, the current #2 CB in the league, is not worth a 4th round pick like Lowery is not worth a 1st round pick...you're right, I do not get it. Concepts that people can get tend to be based on logic and thought.

Are you trying to say that a 4th for Asomugha is too much like a 1st for Lowery is too much? You were the one who suggested a 1st and a 2nd for him.

Are you saying that neither a 1st for Lowery nor a 4th for Asomugha is a for value trade? OK, but it's a stupid fucking example.
Constantly making the same terrible comparisons does not give them any more credit.
    .
I'm sorry, it's difficult to keep all the dumb things you say together. I stand by my original response, especially since our first rounder is going to be a lot more valuable than whatever we could get for Rhodes.
You can always work on depth, Mr. Snyder.
In a draft where we have only 5 picks and nothing in the third or fourth round, yes we are.
And you do it every post.

You're selling the farm by trading a 1st rounder for perennial All-Pro at a position of dire need? Thanks Cato. This is another one of your "Mr. I know it all" post. What the fuck u gonna do with depth if u don't have starters? Depth is there to relieve the starters and step in if they go down, but not vice versa, Einstein!

You're right. The Jets should make no attempt to bring in any younger players. It's utterly useless unless there is a guaranteed pro bowler already in place to play ahead of the draft picks.

While I think the Jets would benefit greatly from having a quality CB to play opposite Revis, Asomugha is a luxury. The fact of the matter is that there are numerous other spots on the roster that could use the draft picks and money that he would require. My only reason for stating that this year isn't the norm is because I think it's very inaccurate to think the Jets are a #2 CB away from the Lombardi trophy.

But are they a Nnamdi Asomugha away from the Lombardi trophy?

I don't get this. if the Jets use the 1st round pick to draft only one player and not trade down for multiple picks, how is that better than using that pick to trade for one player, especially when that one player is a proven commodity at a position we need?

or are you advocating that our first round pick be used to draft a player we want as a back up to create depth? that hardly sounds like a sound position.

1 pick, 1 player. how is drafting that player somehow more beneficial to depth than trading for a player?

We are Mark Sanchez developing into a legit starting NFL QB away from winning the Lombardi. Next year rests entirely on his development. FGF is spot on when he says getting Aso would be a luxury. Bringing in a top 3 CB in the NFL to be our #2 CB is a luxurious move.

I mentioned a trade down earlier in the thread. Mostly, I was arguing against his original trade idea of a 1st and 2nd for Asomugha.

The main point was that trading for a 29 year old corner with a contract paying him $14.25million and then +$20 million who may only have 3 years left seemed like a dumb idea compared to drafting a CB to play opposite Revis for about 5-6 years. We don't need the best two CBs in the league to win the Super Bowl. There are only 2 teams with two phenomenal talents at WR, the Cardinals and the Patriots. Even then, Moss is likely done in a couple of years and Boldin wants to leave Arizona. Spending that much money on one position in the defense that maybe gets to touch the ball, not control it, 8 times a game is a huge mistake.

29 is not too old for a top CB. It's not like he'll fall off a cliff when he hits 31. We don't need the two best CB's, but having two great CB's helps a lot, ESPECIALLY with the defense Rex runs. Greater flexibility as to what we can do with our safeties and LB'ers would make this defense dangerous.

Crazy formations to confuse the offense, rolling coverages to take away their 3rd option, blitz more to throw the QB's timing off (affecting all receivers). Move safeties up to be more effective against the run, dump offs, etc.... Having two shut down CB's makes a HUGE difference. We're not likely to draft one at #29.

BTW the assumption has always been that Aso would be willing to renegotiate his contract some to fit under our cap, assuming it ever comes back. :).

BTW, there is no guarantee that whoever we draft will be any good for the next 5-6 years. See Justin Miller, D-Rob, Da Ghost, etc.... Aso is a known commodity and I think worth it for this team. We have a short window, so we better take advantage of it.

A deal to bring Aso here will be way too expensive in both compensation to the Raiders and Aso himself. If Aso was 25-26 maybe but at 30 no fucking way.

Look I think he is a top flight player but his peak is behind him. The Jets are going to have to channel their resources into the areas and players that will carry this team for the next 5-7 years..... DE, NT, OL , OLB's, young #2 CB to be a tandem with Revis for years to come, slot WR and an extra RB that can help carry the load.

Sanchez for one is not going to be a Superstar this coming year. Sophomore QB's are no door prize, albeit not as bad as Rookies. Anyone expecting Sanchez to light the NFL up is going to be sadly mistaken and disappointed.

The Jets are not far........ A young QB taking the next step, DE, OLB and a 2nd CB, slot Wr, blocking TE and some depth. Getting Aso I think is going to hamper the other area's the Jets are lacking more so than make the Jets a lockdown SuperBowl contender.

I think it comes down to what the actual trade would be. I have no problem giving up our 1st rounder, but if it requires multiple 1st or our 1st and 2nd this year (both of which I doubt) then obviously it's too expensive. But to say we need to draft a guy with that 1st rounder instead of using it on a 28, soon to be 29, year old CB seems silly to me.

The numbers that Portis put up in his first two seasons were substantially better than the numbers that Terrell Davis put up in his first two seasons. He was the back that completely broke the Broncos system, stepping in and playing like Davis did in his third and fourth season right off the bat.

He came down to earth some when he went to Washington, but he still has 6,500 yards rushing for them in 6 seasons, despite missing the equivalent of a full season between the injuries in 2006 and 2009. He has very quietly been one of the better backs in football over the last 6 years.

Rex Ryan makes his money on QB pressure, not coverage. Bringing in a pass rusher or a stronger NT will help this team better than Nnamdi Asomugha.

...and who has ever had two shutdown corners? The Steelers won two SBs this decade without ONE shutdown corner.

Having that second shutdown CB allows us to blitz more, therefore more QB pressure. Good coverage and QB pressure go hand in hand.

What stronger Nt are you gonna find than Jenkins?!?!?! :)

You want ANOTHER LB? How many you wanna carry on our 53 man squad?

Tampa Bay won a Superbowl with Trent Dilfer, guess we shouldn't have drafted Sanchez? We don't have to copy other teams, we have to do what's works for our team.

BTW, nobody has two shutdown corners because they are SO HARD to find! :)

Not in the direction you are thinking.
Probably one that hasn't been injured two seasons in a row.
Three that can actually rush the passer, two of which who can start and play the run. Right now, we only have one of those.
    1. Did you mean the Baltimore Ravens or Brad Johnson?
    2. You are correct, we do have to what is best for this team, and that is rush the passer. Better pressure on the quarterback makes for better coverage. If it worked the other way around, the Broncos would have had a much better defense with Bailey and Bly. We need an elite pass rusher more than an elite CB.
Shut down corners are hard to find = there are not too many in the league = they are not essential for a SB win. Yes, they help, but having ONE shutdown corner on a rarity is a luxury.

    TB won with Brad Johnson.
    Baltimore won with Dilfer.

Yes, a team with two shutdown cornerbacks is a rarity.
1981-85 SF had Lott and Wright.
1983-86 Raiders had Hayes and Haynes.
Those might be the two best tandems.

Edit- oh, and the Dixon and Minnifield tandem is right there, too.

Coverage sacks, QBs throwing the ball away after X seconds... or checking down, calling more blitzes.

So you want a NT in the 1st? Who? Cody?

I highly doubt we are drafting any LB'er this year. Especially not in the 1st, so Aso wouldn't affect that one bit.

Oops, I meant Baltimore. Trent was drafted by Tampa bay....

Completely different defense than Denver. We don't have room for another OLB and that's were the rushers comes from in our defense.

That can be said of almost any position. Teams have won with crappy WRs, so-so QBs, mediocre defenses, etc.... All combinations exist. That's not an argument. Having two shutdown CB's would give us an advantage.
