Getting a second round pick for Leon Washington would allow the Jets to acquire a few more picks by trading back into the third, fourth, and fifth rounds. This team does not need to retain Thomas Jones. Shonn Greene will be the lead ball carrier in 2010. The Jets need to add another powerful runner and this drafted is loaded with those kind of players. With two powerful backs on the roster, the Jets could sign a cheap free agent or promote Chauncey Washington from the practice squad as the third back.
Westbrook's concussions are a major concern.....i'd be surprised if the guy could spell "cat" at this point.....let alone produce on the field.
This is true and he probably won't be used to run the ball often, but he does help the Jets offense open up in one aspect that we were pathetic in last season. The "screen pass." Leon is probably one of the best backs in open field and would murder on the screen. I want to keep him, even if someone is willing to part with a 2nd.
He's been consistently injured/nicked up for the past few years, last year just introduced concussions on top of all the major leg problems. Westbrook has been one of my favorite players in the NFL but I really hope he hangs it up before he is forced to.
when rex reigned sanchez in he started checking down to the rb.problem with that was the rb was usually t.rich.i gotta beleive that leon would have been the outlet option and would have made a few first downs in those situations.
How can you be comfortable heading into the season as a Defensive, run-first team with an injury prone second year player, a rookie, and PS guy? That is retarded (not you, the team if they do it).
Getting a second round pick for your kick returner and your third option at running back is a hell of a move.
I'm not going to lie and say I wouldn't be disappointed if Leon left, but if it's a team with an early 2nd who signs him, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Ryan Matthews. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Pats look at Leon. They're loaded on picks and Leon's skill set definitely aligns with what they wan out of a back up there.
He was run into the ground in Philly. He WAS their offense. He'd only be a change of pace back for us. Same role that Leon had with ~15 touches per game.
How is that retarded? In 2008, the Ravens had success with a mid-round fullback, a rookie, and a injury prone vet. If this team drafted someone like Fresno's Ryan Mathews, Mississippi State's Anthony Dixon, Oregon's LaGarrette Blount, or Stanford's Toby Gerhart...they'd be fine.
Really?! Agree to disagree, I guess. I could see the Browns pulling the trigger... Let this be a lesson to Leon Washington: he could've earned about $8 million dollars by the 2011 season. But he listened to Alvin Keels, he held out for the big deal, and now he'll earn about 2.5 million during that same time span. Fire Keels, Leon.
...until his head bounces off of the turf and his brain stops working. He got two concussions last season, the likelihood of another one this season is extremely likely and a major risk to his health and the team's depth. He will be gone faster than Leon was for us this past season.
That's your opinion. I believe that Braylon Edwards is the most explosive player on the team...he just has to catch the damn ball. Like I said earlier, in a Sanchez led offense, Washington isn't utilized. Getting a second round pick for an under-utilized player is a good move. You can question the my views on this all you want. Just remember: I was the ONLY guy on this board that wanted to acquire Miles Austin when he was a RFA. ...look how that turned out.
+1 I'm a big Leon fan.....but a 2nd round pick (in this draft class) for a player who's health is still in question....is a pretty good tradeoff, imo.
