i think i'd rather have leon.not alot of holes right now.if we lose leon we'd just have to use the draft pick on his replacement.

The Jets were fine without him. Schottenheimer rarely used the screen pass to Washington in 2009. If you can get a 2nd round pick in a loaded draft for a player coming off an injury, then you pull the trigger.

I'd rather replace Thomas Jones with a draft pick, and sign a smallish, change-of-pace back in free agency. 2010's draft class is filled with powerful runners.

It looks like Brad Smith will remain a Jet, and he's a better option in the Wildcat. Smith was also a halfway decent return man too.

I rather get a 2nd for leon so we can draft a long term partner for Greene in the backfield. I also think we tagged B. Smith at a 2, just so we can trade him to Mangini for a 3rd.

I think you're kidding with this post, but if not, the Browns aren't going to make any more dumb deals with the Jets. Mike Holmgren is in charge of that team now.

Brad Smith would be useless in Cleveland anyway. They have the best direct snap runner in the game: Joshua Cribbs.

I don't think you have to worry about that, I'd be shocked if someone signed a RB coming off a broken leg and gave up a 2nd round pick. And if they did, getting a 2nd would be outstanding value for Leon. I don't think we'd have to draft his replacement; I think we'd be fine with Greene/Jones for another year, and then we could draft Jones' replacement in 2011.

But again, I doubt anyone signs Leon or Smith with a 2nd round tender on them.

Wow, Leon really got screwed. Not signing that contract last year was his (and his retarded agent's) problem, but offering him the low tender is just a low blow from the team.

This seems to be saying he won't be here in the near future...and I hate that. Tendering him with the 2nd option and not the 1st or 1st and 3rd in an uncapped year, just screams "come and get him". They must really be pissed that he didn't accept the previous offer.

Letting Leon Washington hit RFA is a dangerous thing for the Jets. They can't sign quality free agents to replace the guys they lose and that 2nd round pick could easily bust on them. My guess is that Leon is still asking for the moon at this point and the Jets feel like they have no choice in the matter. It still sucks for us.

Losing Randy Thomas and Laveranues Coles after 2002 set the Jets back critically at a time when they should have been expanding on the great 2002 finish and instead they had just one more year in them before the collapse. I'd hate to lose a couple of guys to free agency this year, find the Jets low on gas next season and then have the ceiling come down on us in 2011 - leaving us to dig out again in 2012 the way we had to in 2006.

This is the best thing the Jets could have done for Leon. Now he doesn't cost an arm and a leg in compensation and it becomes much easier for a team to overbid him, acquire him and leave the Jets flailing and now forced to pay TJ's roster bonus.

In a Sanchez led offense, Washington wasn't that dangerous. His real value on this team is as a kick returner, and that spot can easily be filled. He's a heck of a change-of-pace back, but Shonn Greene will be our feature back...and Ryan wants to pound teams into the ground, so another power back should spell Greene, not Leon.

We'll have a better idea of the free agent class after the March 5th cuts.

At kick returner, former New York Giant Dominik Hixon could be available.

Letting go a young talent in Leon, and taking an old concussion prone and never played a full season without injuries Brian Westbrook. No I don't think so.

It's a moot point if we do not use him. Greene can get the yards on outside runs and Schottenheimer didn't need screen passes to Leon last year, anyway.

One injury riddled off-year for Westbrook and you guys wouldn't sign him as a short term replacement for Leon? I'm surprised. I think he'd be fine as a change of pace back if we actually lost Leon for a 2nd.
