True. Also, something Kamen forgot to mention: Asomugha's age. He's going to be 29 years old once the season starts. The Jets giving up a first round pick for him only makes sense if Asomugha is the one thing that the Jets need to succeed next season. Getting one cornerback for maybe 3 years is not going to help the Jets out when there is that much age in the trenches and that many holes in other positions. This team needs to get younger and trading away a first or more is not going to help the team as a whole, just the coverage on the top 2 WRs. That being said, if the Jets can fleece Asomugha from the Raiders like the Pats have been able to do with other players/picks, I am all for it. If we can get Asomugha for a pick we get from a Rhodes/Jones package or the players themselves, I am all for it.
Dunta Robinson is gonna be available. He'd be a nice complement to Revis, too. Edit, NM... forgot about the final eight rule.
yes. But old man Al might do it. I would love to see a trade of our 1st 2010 and 2nd 2011 plus maybe Rhodes/Strickland for Aso and a conditional pick in 2011. Think that could happen?
^ I read that wrong thought it said a 2nd/4th. And do think those 2 picks for Aso is giving him away, is that such a mistake?
If Aso really wants to play for the Jets, he could refuse to restructure his deal for any team but the Jets. No team wants that ridiculous contract
If it means we get Aso and Bush, absolutely I would trade Leon away. He's always been a change of pace back; He can't carry the load. Great out of the backfield, but that is predicated on his quickness and we just don't know if he's lost any of that. With Bush, we'd have a PUNISHING tandem at RB; We'd own the 4th quarter. That along with the suffocating pass defense we'd have with Revis and Aso, and an even better overall defense because of the freedom having two premier CB's gives our defense to disguise and blitz.... WOW! I rather have that than the 15 or so touches Leon gets per game. BTW, even if we keep Leon, he would be backing Greene up. Thomas Jones value is nothing. Our 2nd is basically a 3rd and I'm not sure we own our 6th (Kevin O'Connell?). I'm not gonna argue 'if' Al Davis is crazy enough to do any trade, but what you're proposing does not come close to being a 'fair' trade in my mind. Aso has real value and is not a problem for the Oakland locker room. The only thing that might reduce his value some, is that horrible contract. If all we offer is scraps, someone will outbid us for him.
He did trade away Randy Moss for a 4th round pick. And let's just get Fargas back, he was awesome when we had Curtis Martin.
Just pointing out that the Raiders would be paying Aso over $16 mill for TWO years (2010 and 2011) before he voids his contract and walks away.
Walks away as a 32 year old CB. Darren Sharper is good too but no one is going to want him because of his age.
Just touching on a couple of points you made. I believe Aso will have at least 3 more years as a premier CB. After that he'll have a few more as a very good CB. Our defense is different than Denver's was. If we can play man to man on their top two passing targets we can disguise and blitz to Rex's content. Notice I said passing targets and not WR's. We've already seen Revis cover TE's on some plays, why wouldn't we be able to mix that up with the 6'2" Aso if the TE is in fact one of the top two targets? Strickland or Lowery on the #3 slot receiver, I'd like that match up most of the time. With the man coverages, we'd have our safeties closer to the LOS to deal with HB's out of the backfield....
Im geussing the raiders want a first for next year because of the one they gave up for seymore... so do you think a second this year and a first next year could get it done and if not throw in a player like gholston after reworking his contract?
OK, stop for a second Mr. I know it all. Who in his right mind would trade away a young, lets say 25 years old CB (#2 CB in the NFL if not #1) for a first rounder? You think we would still be offering a 1st for Nnamdi if he was 25 years old? You are talking about having the #2 CB in the NFL to play along #1 CB. Just like how a young 25 yr old Lowery isn't worth a 1st rounder, a 29 year old Nnamdi isn't exactly worth a 4th rounder either. If Tom Brady was on the block and you needed a QB badly, would be bitching if people said hey lets offer the Pats our 29th overall pick, and a 2nd rounder? Tom Brady would be 33 when the season starts and probably has 2-3 good years left in him. Sure, QB are much more important than CB, but its not like we are giving up a 1st overall pick. Our 1st is a 29th overall, just 4 picks away from Rams 2nd round draft. What are the odds that 29th overall won't be a bust? If not a bust, what are the odds the player would live up to its expectations? You don't get Nnamdis and Revis' in every drafts. Players like them come once in years. BTW, I never said Nnamdi will be 28 when season opens. I said he IS 28. There is a difference between someone who IS 29 and who WILL be 29. The difference is about half a year, about as long as an NFL season. And you are joking about the Rhodes and Jones for Aso trade right? Seriously, a 32 year old TJ and a 28 year old (one year younger than Nnamdi...wow) for Nnamdi? TJ 'might' have one solid year left, which doesn't leave much value in him. Rhodes is a pussy tackler who was burned by Manning several times. I really don't know whats wrong with you. Would you trade for Nnamdi for a 1st straight up? Reading your posts and the TJ/Rhodes trade proposal, you are probably valuing Nnamdi around a late 3rd (the one Jets gave up for Braylon). If you wanna be the forum police and start bitching and cussing at everyone wanting Nnamdi, be my guest. Its not like we'll find an all pro from FA with a mil.
Champ Bailey cost less than a 1st round pick for the Broncos. Probably a first and a 3rd if Nnamdi was still 25, maybe maybe a starter, maybe a starter and a 3rd. Comparing this perspective trade to a trade for Lowery, a nickel back on this roster, has to be the dumbest thing anyone has posted in this thread. Yea, probably. But who the fuck trades away franchise QBs with 3 rings when they can still play without already having an option to start behind him. The only QB to be traded who was that good was Montana. Even then, that trade only happened when the 49ers had Young sitting behind him. No GM in their right mind would ever trade away the cornerstone of their franchise in that scenario, especially not to a division rival. This has to be the most retarded thing I have ever read. Players bust and boom at every pick in the draft. Are you saying that the risk of a bust isn't worth actually selecting a player in the draft? Are you Dan Snyder? If you are trying to make a case for no value at 29, then the Jets would be better served trading down given the age of the OLine and DLine and the lack of a complete OLB playing opposite Pace. 29 is exactly where Kyle Wilson is supposed to fall which could give us a phenomenal CB pair for possibly a decade. No team is built completely on once-in-a-decade players. This is a fucking Madden/Pro Bowl roster that you are trying to make here. It does not work like that in real life. A first and a second round pick for one player when there are more than one pressing needs is how the Redskins have managed to remain nearly irrelevant for this decade. His age right now doesn't matter. If the Jets traded for him he wouldn't be playing right now at 28, he would be playing at age 29 which is the age that matters. More likely than you coming up with a cogent argument.
I am wasted, and I still find it comical that people want a top 3 cornerback in the ENTIRE NFL to be our #2 CB. How fucking retarded are you people? I just vomited and ruined my arrow keys.
