My opinion yes, Al Davis standards no. I would make a young top 5 corner in the league untouchable. Getting a first would be necessity for a conversation to start to most.
U are talking about a bidding war. Aso can go to any team and be their #1 CB (besides the Jets of course). Every team can use his services and there would be teams out there bidding for him if the Dickface was ready to trade him for a couple of 2nds and a 4th. Not a bad suggestion at all, but the bidding war can make it a steep price. His salary will keep a few teams from the bidding war, however.
I wonder if Aso has any say in what team he'd be traded to. Also if it comes down to a bidding war, expect Dallas to be there as well. Jerry Jones, I bet, would love to get Aso. Right now if NE offered 2nd/2nd/4th, I really have a hard time seeing anyone else offering more. What would top that?
A 1st and a 2nd would top that by far. Depending on the pick number, a 1st and a 3rd would top it too.
Hate to keep asking these questions...but, who would pay that? I could maybe see a team like the Steelers (Aso/Polamalu...whoa!) offering a 1st only. I just cannot see a team over paying for a guy who's contract is absolutely insane like Aso's is.
Im not sure who would and could. I could see Jerry doing it if he thinks Aso is the missing piece, especially after Favre burned them pretty good in the playoffs. I don't follow the Cowboys offseason so Im not even sure if they have all their draft choices this yr. It almost has to be a big market to get Aso. Teams like TB will never get him for the money issue alone. Without the cap, I could see the Jets or Cowboys going into a bidding war for him assuming both the teams have the ammo. Even if Aso restructures, he won't agree to anything below $10mil a yr anyways.
Asomugha is going to cost too much. There are too many holes on the team and Davis is going to ask the Jets for too much. -3 starting OLine at least 30 next season -2 or 3 starters on the DLine at least 31 next season -2 missing CBs(Strickland and Sheppard) -1 Safety who could be traded -1 Veteran HB who could be on his way out -1 complete OLB -No real option at Slot WR Unless we can get Asomugha for a package of players and/or a late round pick, the Jets will be paying too much for him. This team is much farther away than one starting CB from a Super Bowl title. Giving up a first rounder for Asomugha will hurt this team more than help it.
Hey, what about the Parcells/Davis connection? I'd hate to see him in those ugly ass Dull-phin uni's!
How about a healthy, effective running back? Sanchez is still young and we cannot rely on a miraculous improvement to spur the team past better offenses. Not to mention the fact that problems we did not have this past year are going to come up next season. The OLine is old. The DLine is old. Those matters are also going to have to be addressed. You have to look beyond what was obvious last season or you wind up like the dutch boy at the dyke.

Im pretty sure Leon would be a Jet next yr. If Nnamdi becomes a Jet for a 1st and a 2nd, Jets would have the best CB duo in the NFL history. Nnamdi isn't 26, but at 28, he still has a good 3-4 years left before he even starts to slow down. Not sure whats wrong with having possibly the best Pass D for 4 years with one move.
You mean that guy? And still will not have a pass rush, which is the other problem you yourself mentioned in your previous post. Consistency would help in an argument. Actually, he'll be 29 by the time next season rolls around, but why bother checking your facts on this one, right? 3-4 years left in the league? Yes. All of them at corner? No. Remember the Broncos with Champ Bailey and Dre Bly? Remember how they put so much money into their secondary that they could never build an effective pass rush? Having the best CB duo in the league does not equal having the best pass D in the league. Not in a league where spread formations and TEs who are more passers than blockers are so prevalent. If the Jets put too much into two corners, that is not going to give them much for another safety or another LB, which were two of the biggest weaknesses in the passing game last season. Asomugha and Revis take out the #1 and 2 WRs? Fine, say hello to TEs, HBs, and slot WRs catching the ball early, often, and effectively. If the Jets take away the deep game without building anything else, they are going to get killed underneath by players like Welker, Bess, and Fasano, K. Faulk, Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams...and those are just the players that will hurt us in divisional games. You are concentrating too much on one position. Try and take a step back.
You realize you can only take one player with a first round pick. So if we go corner, which is a strong possibility, in the first round who is gonna be better the Asomugha there? McCourtely? Wilson? To say it will hurt the team is insane. Then you look at all your other points. - Teams find solid OL as undrafted FA all the time, and can build more next year when we have a full stock of picks, since the line has been durable and only backups are needed - Second round you can draft DL, maybe a Wrotton, or someone like that falls to add depth. - Corner is solved with Nhamdi to go along with Revis and Lowery, can pick up some that got cut for a dime - Rhodes leaves or stays is replaceable, defense would be fine with smith or another FA - plenty of running backs are becoming available with cuts, Jones could come back, willie parker, LT, Westbrook. Not saying them, but third running backs can be found - Idk what you have against Pace, and Bryan Thomas. Gholston stinks, but Adalius Thomas will be cut and while not the player of old, could be a nice bargain pick up, same as LaBoy. - the slot can be filled through FA or a later round pick, cotchery and stuckey were both nice late round picks for us. Plus clowney deserves a shot to compete for the spot.
We're not looking for depth anymore. This team has to start looking at replacements for guys like Faneca and Woody. They don't have much left in the tank. Who the hell is Wrotton? The #2 cornerback spot would be filled...we still wouldn't have a nickel or a dime corner though. I'd rather get quality players at those positions...especially in this scheme. Eric Smith most definitely isn't an upgrade over Kerry Rhodes. If he gets shipped out, we'd most likely see a safety drafted. Tomlinson, Westbrook, and Parker don't fit into what we're trying to do here. This team needs another powerful runner to pair with Greene. Thomas Jones is worn down. It's time to look in another direction. Pace and Thomas don't get after the quarterback enough. LaBoy would be a depth player at this point in his career. Adalius Thomas is basically the same as a Cactus or a Pace. Clowney already got his shot, and didn't earn anything. I agree we can find a slot receiver later in this draft. Freddie Barnes is a favorite of mine.
Damn it, Mr.E., I wanted that one! To put it simply: the goal of the offseason is to improve the team as a whole, Kamen. Most of the points which you are proposing do not improve the team. In fact, some of them make the team downright worse. How the fuck are the Jets supposed to get better at HB if they drop a player who is a risk for being injured and pick up a player who is almost guaranteed to be injured?
