I didn't want to post this in the Jets forum because 1000 unifomed people will right away say sign him. (There is probably a thread as I type this) I don't think we can or would make a move but kind of a surprsing move if you ask me. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4940723
Damn, why couldn't they have done this last year? If we signed him last year, we could have easily dangled him in a trade for Aso
As much as I'd love to see him playing opposite Revis, thanks to the Final 8 rules we pretty much have no chance of signing a big name free agent this offseason
Dunta Robinson I saw that he was about to be released. While he is young and I remember him being a top pick (people wanted us to take him over Vilma), I don't see how he can be that good if he was released right before an uncapped year. Does anyone know anything about his stats or if he is in general good? If so, we should definitely take a look.
he didnt get released, theyre just not re-signing him ... therefore, due to the final 4 rules, we cant sign him
He's not cut. Houston just won't 'resign' him. They can't work out a contract and the tag would be an awful lot of money on Dunta (probably around $12mil). He will be an UFA once the so called Free Agency starts.
it's really too bad we're subjected to the "final 8" rules regarding FA.....Dunta was the guy I was hoping the Jets would go after to replace Lito. It's nice that everyone is dreaming about getting Aso...but reality dictates that probably won't happen. Dunta would've been a perfect, more realistic compliment to Revis in the secondary. Oh well....such is life.
If we tell Houston we'll send you a 4th rounder (do we even have a 4th rounder?) if you tag and trade him and we are able to give him a long contract. Besides that, I don't this happening.
*sigh* dude..go into the jets forum....and thread to answer your questiond is "stickied" near the top....
I did, it is as I said, we can sign any number of free agents as long as their salary is not more than the free agents we lose. So why couldnt we sign him and possibly have a backloaded contract, or just cut 2 guys worth half as much for him?
You've got it wrong. We can sign a FA ONLY after we lose one of ours. And we can ONLY sign the FA to equal or lesser contract than the one we lose. We lose an unrestricted Free Agent ONLY when another teams signs him, not when he reaches the free agency. Get it? If Kellen Clemens is let go and reaches free agency, we can't sign anyone. But then say the Rams sign him to a one yr $2mil contract, we can sign one player for $2 mil or less.
You can't cut someone, they have to naturally become UFA's. Our UFA list is sad looking and no one is worthy of even a decent contract. Jay Feely will be our most sought after UFA. Lito Sheppard could also become a UFA if we don't opt to extend him by paying him a $10 million bonus. He could get a little more money. If you read that stickied thread, you'll see that the salary cannot increase by more than a certain amount each year to prevent heavy back loading as you've suggested. Dante will likely demand a much bigger contract than we could possibly sign based on the rules.
Has Dunta Robinson lived up to his 1st round pick billing? I have no idea how he's played, I follow the Texans very little.
if this were regular fa rules he'd be a big target for the jets but due to the final 8 unless someone pays jay feeley 8 million a yr we have no shot
Stats don't mean shit for seeing how good a CB was, and you could find out in 5 seconds if you wanted to know his stats. Yes he is good, but we can't sign him because.....well just look above my post.
