I believe he can still be serviceable for around 150 carries + we don't have many draft picks + I love his leadership + he has got groove with this OL + It's only a 2 mill bonus... keep him!

I wonder if we are going to bring in someone to work out...

    I completely agree.

Let alone the fact I think he deserves it and that it would be wise to hold onto him, I think it would send a message to all players that the NYJ's take care of players who work their ass off for multiple years.

Yes, obviously he slowed down by the end of the season, so lets try and prevent this from happening by spreading the ball around something like this:

    Greene: 50%
    Leon: 20-25%
Jones: 25-30% (Jones was at his best when he was challenged by Greene for carries)

Unless you want Woodhead as our 3rd RB when our 1st has never handled a full load in the NFL and our 2nd is coming off a massive leg injury who's never handled more than 25-30% of carries in a season or you want to spend a valuable draft pick on an RB because we won't be getting one in free agency (restrictions)

Of course this is just my opinion.

keep him. with leon returning from injury and shonn greene prone to injury, why take the risk of being in a situation where danny woodhead is starting?

It's a good point. Who would fill the void?

Have people also forgotten that there's no guarantee that TRich is coming back next year? That'll leave us with what a backfield of LDub, Greene, a rookie from the Draft and (who's our other FB on the PS?) Caulcrick (sp)? Who's the leader in that group? Or is Faneca gonna keep this young RB corps in line and teach them how to study tape?

Caulcrick actually signed a future contract with the 49ers in January once his PS contract ended with the Bucs. Good point about TRich, though.

Never EVER underestimate the stupidity of the Raiders!

That said, I'd like to see Jones in another uniform next season. Don't get me wrong. The guy's one of my favorite players in the league, but I'd like to see him somewhere where the fans would appreciate him more. I've been a Giants fan since I was a little kid (in my 40's now) and outside of Philly and Chicago, I've never seen a city that dumps on its own players more than New York fans. It blows my mind that anyone would complain about a RB that's averaged 1357 yards and 14.5 TDs the last two years! Every team has its shortfalls, but RB hasn't been one of them for the Jets the last few years. TJ may be getting a little long in the tooth, but he could still be a valuable contributor to this team.

  10. W/ the past contractual errors w/ guys late ion their career like Marvin Jones,Mo Lewis, Wayne Chrebet and even Curtis Martin...in a normal NFL climate I'd say we let Jones walk.

However, With the uncapped year in play...Jones offers alot of leadership and could be alot more effective over the course of a whole season w/ a significant lessened role.

I say frontload a 2 year extension and let him provide leadership and depth.

Unfortunately, Al Davis doesn't make trades favorable to the Jets. He still hates the Jets from the 60's. He prefers making trades favorable for the pats.

Chauncey Washington (already on the roster)

    LaDainian Tomlinson
    Brian Westbrook
    Jamal Lewis

Any runningback who gets released is an option. I'd consider LT or Westbrook, but I prefer Jones over Lewis.

The Jets can sign any back who gets released. Hell, if the Jets really want to roll the dice, they can let TJ go, and then scour either the waiver wire for guys who are put on teams' practice squads or released just before the season. There should be a few talented guys then. We should know as anyone, since we lost both Derrick Ward and Danny Ware to the Giants.

The big question is how healthy is Leon Washington. If he's ready to play next year, a Greene-Washington tandem is great, and the 3rd back isn't that important. You'd love to have someone talented there in case one of the top two guys go down, like last year, but it's not a top priority.

We're worried about TJ breaking down, which is a legit concern, but want to replace him with Westbrook or LT? Meh.

It's a legit concern for all three backs. The question is at this stage of their careers, who would be the best complement to Greene and Washington?

I don't think TJ would be our lead back next year anyway. Greene and Leon will cut into his carries a lot. I'd be shocked if TJ reached 1000 yards next year, just because I think the other two backs will cut into his workload.

IMO, we're not replacing 331 carries. Probably closer to half of that.

I agree on the number of carries we're replacing but fail to see why either of those guys is an upgrade, a better fit, or less of an injury concern.

Then in your opinion, we should keep Jones, unless something better becomes available. A perfectly valid opinion, and one I'm leaning towards as well.

Running backs are a dime a dozen and we have our star RB ready to be the #1 in Greene.

Keep Jones unless you can somehow use him as a bargaining chip in a trade.
