Ugh, I hope this is just lip service. If it isn't, I don't think it's because he cares about the players. I think the NFL wants nothing more than to be done with the players when they are out of the league, e.g. not pay them pensions or disability. This way there will be less injury and the NFL will be under less pressure to pay ex-players. That's just my cynical side. Either way though, big hits are just as exciting as offense. For many football fans - that are real fans of the game, watching an amazing Defense, like the Jets, is awesome. I know it's no PC to say thinks like this, but watching a dude get leveled is entertaining as hell - as long as he is OK, you never wanna see anyone get hurt. In any event, Pete Rozelle is probably spinning so fast in his grave right now that he could power New Orleans during Mardi Gras.
Funny thing is the NFl loved the Front office when it was a manly game. Now they embrace a leader who protects the QB and promotes a passing game...just what the AFL did...
