You guys forget who votes for HOF candidates, the Media absouletly loved Curtis "My Favorite" Martin. especially if the Jets make it to the SuperBowl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just numbers alone gets him in & the type of person he is will overwhelmingly get him in the first ballot.
He'll get in, but I don't think on first ballot. Had some big game issues and certainly has a little bit of "compiler" in him.
Faulk was a bit better than Martin, but both of them are clearly better than Bettis. Only because of the list of other eligable players and coaches in 2011, I think Curtis will have to wait a year, until 2012. There is absolutely no doubt he gets in, especially if the veteran commitee voted for Floyd Little. Martin is well liked and uber respected, so he'll get in, question is first or second year. I could name at least 3 Denver players who should have gotten in before Little. I think Little got extra attention due to him being the third RB out of Syracuse after Jim Brown and Ernie Davis. In some ways, I think some voters voted for Little because of the Ernie Davis story. Davis who died of lukemia and never got to play in the NFL was recruited by Brown to play at Syracuse, was the first balck to win the Heisman, and then helped recruit Little to Syracuse. (for those who may not know the story)
i voted for the 1st ballot, but after seeing the list of eligible canidates, i'm thinking more that martin will get in one day.
This is pretty much the way I feel. In all honesty, I will be borderline shocked if Martin does get in next year. Not only do I think people perceive Faulk as being better than he was (and I think that that is not unreasonable), I think people perceive Bettis as being better (which I don't think is reasonable).
Yeah, probably not a first timer but he most likely would. BTW, who are the two f*ckers that think he won't reach the HoF?
Only 7 guys have rushed fore more than 250 yards so that's a little unfair. Only 9 guys have had more 150+ yd games than Martin since 1990. So while some call him a compiler he had the ability to have big games as well.
I think he will because of his image and Parcells influence. I don't think he is a first ballot HOF player. He belongs in the HOF but he isn't one of the special few who belongs on the first ballot.
How long did it take Art Monk to get in the hall of fame as the leading receiver of all time when he retired? I'm not kidding here when I say that it *might* take Curtis 4 or 5 tries to get in. He might get in on the first ballot, but he also might have people legitimately perceived as superstars, which Curtis never was, crowding him out every year. That's what happened to Monk. The thing Curtis has going for him is that he will not have people zipping by him on the all-time lists the way Monk did. The thing that Curtis was renowned for, his durability, is also the thing that will keep him way up that list forever. Unless they turn this into flag football Curtis is going to be in the all-time top 10 rushing until 2050 or beyond - this is true even if they go to 18 games cuz 18 games will be worse for runningbacks than 16 in terms of career length.
Quoting Sean Lahman: Martin might never have been the league's brightest star, but he was consistently among the top running backs in the game, and he maintained that level of play for a very long time. If that's not a great player, then I'm not sure what is. I think this pretty much sums it up nicely for me. I'm hoping the voters see his consistent play and vote him in on the first ballot.
I don't think Curtis is a first ballot HOFer, but I think he is a future HOFer (just like I think Klecko is a 'future HOFer'). When he gets it may be the most disappointing thing of all. I'd be interested to see a poll of how many people thought Klecko would be in on the first ballot.
Yea, and the three behind are Eric Dickerson, Tony Dorsett and Jim Brown, all of whom are already in as well.......
My favorite Curtis Martin stat, 3518 career rushing attempts, 29 fumbles. Adrian Peterson already has 20.
Which begs the question, which is the better 2007 draft pick? Peterson at #7 overall, Patrick Willis at #11 overall or Revis at #14 overall? Just kidding of course, the answer is betweein Russell at #1 and Ginn at #9.
I think Martin gets in because he is a JET: So few JETS have qualified over the years ,I think when we finally get one who does ,they will put him in...
